Please please tell me that what I've just read on another forum (Zumo) isn't true. Here's part of the post in question:-

I contacted Garmin who have told me the new Europe 2013.40 maps updates have been withdrawn as the maps are faulty and cannot be trusted

Well if you can go to your myGarmin account and still download them (assuming you have Lifetime Updates) then the rumor would be false. If, on the other hand, they don't show up anymore then the rumor would be true.

Well here's more on the post in question:-

.......I contacted Garmin who have told me the new Europe 2013.40 maps updates have been withdrawn as the maps are faulty and cannot be trusted..........Garmin have told me to reinstall the 2013.30 maps and have reset my account to update my device to the old 2013.30 maps

    and a later posts states:-

I asked two customer support guys who were guiding me through getting 2013.30 back on me device what actually was the problem with the 2013.40 maps ..........they both told me that it was the cartographers that had pulled them and they were not given any depth of information only the maps couldn't be trusted, 2013.40 will be re released hopefully sometime in May.

It would be nice to get an official Garmin response to this.

So the posts would appear to be genuine and posted with good intentions. The irony of it, is that some people, including me, also reported problems with the .30 version in that when certain areas of the map were searched it caused MapSource to crash. So, even if Garmin are as stated helping this user to revert back to version .30, something that Garmin told me on the telephone and by email wasn't possible, it would appear that he is being asked to revert back to a map version that also cannot be relied upon.

Yes and something that was reported, and I've verified, with City Navigator North America NT 2013.40 maps as well.

There may well be an known issue and Garmin may be fixing it but I've never known them to withdraw maps. I have seen, on rare occasions, "out-of-band" map updates.

Personally I doubt you'll see an official Garmin response here but you never know ;)

PS: If a fix is forthcoming I'd expect the map version to be 2013.41

Hope it's not true. When I bought my nuvi a few weeks ago it came with one free map update in the first 90 days and I have used that to update both the European and US maps to 2013.40.

I wonder if there is a problem with the maps they would allow another free update to version .41 (if that's what it becomes) - after all I updated to the latest maps in all good faith and it's not my fault that they released faulty maps.

I can't say for sure but I'd think Garmin would allow any .41 update to be obtained for free for those that got .40. As I recall I did some years ago for a non-European/US map product.

    Thanks Stuart.

My first experience of updating Garmin maps so I've no idea of the procedure if something goes wrong like this.

Ok the map product was City Navigator Australia v6.01. There was an issue with v6 that I've long since forgotten. I looked with Google and can't find anything. I do recall that the unlock code was unchanged from v6 to v6.01.

Customers who presently have Australian City Navigator v6.0 can update to v6.01 for free.
  • 2013.40 still showing as available at myGarmin

Perhaps someone has got their wires crossed.

I went to mygarmin they still show 2013.40 Map+P available for download, I don't know what the +P stands for, but I'll try later to reinstall.
I've just try to reinstall on PC with GarminMapUpdater it does not download again, just a msg saying I am up to date. Same thing with Webupdater.

Not sure what the "'+P" means but in the past I've had "+P", "+P+JV(G)", "+P+JV(G&N)" and "-JV". I'm sure JV stands for Junction View data.

In short unless the numbers change you'll just redownload and reinstall what you already have.
