Download to SD card in GPS60CSx

What I've been doing for years has suddenly stopped working, and I don't know what I did.

I cannot download maps that show up in both MapSource and Basecamp to my GPS60CSx with a 4Gb SD card. I get an error message saying, for example, that the file I'm trying to download (install) contains 2.8Mb, but only 3769.5Mb of storage is available, please select a smaller map. The numbers seem correct. If, on the gpsr, I go to Setup>File info, the currently installed maps take up 59.95Mb and 3709.5 Mb are free.

As recently as a week ago, I installed maps from Mapsource with no problems, but that was before I installed Windows 8. Could that possibly be the problem. Doesn't seem likely.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd scan the microSD card for filesystem errors. It's quite possible it's corrupt.

In Windows Explorer right-click on the drive letter, select Properties, Tools tab, Check now...

FYI you can still use MapSource if you wish. I do.

This is a common problem that has nothing to do with filesystem corruption on the SD card. It happens when you replace one or more of the individual mapset .img tiles that are used by Mapsource/Basecamp. Mapsource and Basecamp don't care, but when you attempt to send the map to the GPS, you get this error message.

As you have already been advised in your post at GPSFileDepot, if you created the mapset yourself then it needs to be re-compiled using MapSetToolkit . If you didn't create the mapset yourself and if you didn't replace any tiles, then you should contact the author of the map as they have probably made this same mistake.

I suppose something else might have happened, such as one of the .img files getting left out or damaged when you migrated to Windows 8. You might also try running GMTK to see if that reports any errors. http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html

Hmmm, I've had filesystem corruption cause issues before...

Hmmm, I've never run into that (yes I have custom maps). Just lucky I guess.

These days I only keep one map product in my 76CSx but in the past, when it was my primary unit, I had about 6 in there. Oh well something for the OP to check.

    Hmmm?...

If you make your own maps (like me), you will sooner or later run into this problem when you only update a single tile in your mapset. This has been discussed more than once by map makers over at GPSFileDepot. And I can recall at least one example where an author uploaded such a map there which caused this problem for users who downloaded it. You wouldn't be aware that anything is wrong until you sent the map to the GPS.

Of course SD cards can become corrupted. However the problem I mentioned is the only thing I'm aware of that will cause an error message saying that you have a huge amount of free space on the card yet a small map won't fit. It would be nice if Mapsource/MapInstall provided a more helpful error message. :)

Nah, I let others have all that fun with CGPSmapper :)
