Moving BaseCamp from olod to new PC?

Hi,

just curious where the BaseCamp stores all data including the waypoints, tracks, maps, settings, etc :confused:

I'm asking because I'm planing to replace my old PC and looking for the easiest method to move all BaseCamp data from old to new PC.

Any hint is more than welcome.

For data simply do a File, Back up then a File, Restore on your new PC.

For maps use http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html and use Back Up then Restore on new PC

Yeah I know that but I not sure where the BaseCamp stores all those data?

File, Back up gives you the choice of where to put it ... so just put it onto a USB memory stick so you can transfer it to the new PC.

BaseCamp stores its data at %APPDATA%\Garmin\BaseCamp.

Backup just creates a zip file with the contents of that folder. Restore unzips the file and puts them back in that folder.

Thank you for this tip. I plan trips on my desktop and take them with me on my laptop when I travel (way too many points and trips to load onto my device, besides I modify them as I go on the laptop). This will make it much easier to get the data to the laptop instead of remembering where the files are hidden.

If Basecamp goes into "not responding" whenever I ask it to backup, and I search for %APPDATA% and find nothing, is there any way of porting the data apart from connecting my Montana and downloading all the information to it? Running 4.1.2 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro with Windows 7 Home premium.

Hmmm ... you may be suffering from the problem a number, including me, seem to have with a Toshiba laptop (mine's a satellite model also). BC works fine on my desktop, but goes into 'not responding' mode with a AppHang B1 error when I try to import/export/backup/restore. Drag and drop and 'send to' work fine though.

Instead of backing up you could simply copy the data in the folder C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\BaseCamp\Database\4.1

Pretty sure that folder tree has Hidden and/or System attributes. They won't show in Windows Explorer unless it is configured to show hidden/system files/folders.

You may be right, my system is set to show hidden files. It doesn't (unless I change settings) show system files/folders.

Just checked and

C:\Users\xxx\AppData

is a hidden folder.
