BaseCamp 4.1.2 is available at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435. The update from within BaseCamp should also work.

This is a maintenance release, so it's pretty much all bug fixes. No new features were implemented for this version.

The list of changes:
  • Fixed an issue with Basestation mode.
  • Fixed an issue where BaseCamp would not remember the positioning of the toolbars correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where the Custom POI symbols from POI files where incorrect.
  • Fixed an issue with the address search.
  • Fixed an issue where refreshing a search was using the last location on the map, not the current one.
  • Fixed an issue where Cutting (Ctrl-X) a photo on a device would delete the photo and prevent the user from pasting it.
  • Fixed an issue with some Asian language map products.
  • Fixed an issue with deleting track points.
  • Fixed an issue with route creation in a folder.
  • Fixed an issue where the hand tool was not always set as the default tool.
  • Fixed some menu inconsistencies between find results, context menus, and map popup menus.
  • Changed translations of Walking and Hiking activity profiles in Dutch.

you are right, I tried to change proxy server and it works, thanks.
  • I just open Basecamp and click the "Check for software updates" HELP menu item. Basecamp always seems to know how to find it.

    ...ken...

I'm still not happy with this or, which is also partly the case, I still haven't managed to work out the methodology behind Garmins thinking with this search for address function. In MapSource it was simple - open up find, enter an address or a postcode (the latter was not infalible but worked well enough), hit Find and up it popped with the map repositioned if necessary.

With BaseCamp, if I select Find followed by Find Address a panel opens up to the right. But exactly where am I supposed to type in the address that I am seeking. In MapSource there were separate lines for differing lines of the address whilst in BaseCamp there is nothing at all. Also, if looking for a postcode (zip code) is one supposed to enter this into the top search box? If so, then I've tried this and it searches........searches.........searches and searches. I simply gave up in the end. As an experiment I zoomed out so that the entire map was just showing the UK (I don't live in the UK by the way so searching by postcode is important to me) and then entered SK8 2AY into the search box. Nothing. In this instance I know where that postcode is located but had I not then I'd have been up the creek without a paddle.

Did they fire the software writers responsible for MapSource? If so, bring them back - at least they thought in the same logical manner as the end user and designed the layout of the search box in a logical and easy to follow sequence. OK, it wasn't perfect all the time but it's miles better than BaseCamp in this regard which, without putting too fine a point on it, is absolutely useless.

I'm sorry, but we only fixed one specific issue with address search, not all issues with address search.

UK Postal Code search does not yet work. As a sneak preview, this is my current working build of 4.2:

So unless something unexpected happens, UK Postal Code search will work in 4.2.

None of the MapSource developers were fired. Most of them still sit in shouting distance from me right now.
  • 4.2 looking good, I'll be able to ditch Mapsource at last :)

But you really ought to update your maps lol

Well it was said half in jest - the other half was me wondering why it has taken to v4.2 (hopefully) to fix something that was already working in another Garmin application. I know that we're never going to agree on this but I feel fairly confident when I say that a lot of users find it strange that Garmin have replaced MS which, let's be perfectly honest here, one could learn from scratch almost without recourse to any 3rd party help, for something that is totally unintuitive. Rubber band was tricky to fathom out at first but principle easily grasped. Now then, with all that experience Garmin have made it's replacement - BC - totally unintuitive in this regard. Which average user would think of using the Insert tool to access rubber banding? Insert means just that - to insert something - not to edit/move something that is already present. OK, Insert might work in isolation - you could for instance think of 'insert another point/via - but most would understand without any hesitation had Garmin used the word 'Move' for instance.
  • Mine updated automatically when I started BC this morning, and all seems to be well.

When i went to update my BC it said "file corrupt" so now what? If I do a fresh install frm Garmin's site will I loosee my maps (City 2012) and the routes I've created? Any other ideas...
  • A fresh install won't delete maps, routes etc. Data is held separately from the Basecamp program.

    Dear Falagar.

    another case for search:
    Basecamp 4.1.2
Map: City navigator Europe NT 2013.4
    Map centre on screen approx N49 55.30, E 6 13.46, zoom level 2km
    Detail level highest:
Search for: roth an der our (which is small town in the centre of map) by entering the name in the top left box, hit <enter> and be surprised.
I hope this case will help to improve the search function for the future.

    Kind regards
