Garmin Nuvi 1350T won't run BaseCamp routes

When I create a new route in BaseCamp and then transfer it to my 1350T and try to run the route, the 1350T will not run the exact route I just created in BaseCamp but instead creates its own route. The 1350T uses my starting and ending points of the route but deviates from the route I created in BC. My whole reason for using BC is to create an exact route so it is very frustrating when the 1350 ignores the route and does its own thing. Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?

The 1350T doesn't support the transfer of routes (from BaseCamp or anything else) or indeed saved routes of any kind.

    1350T Specifications
    Routes: 0

You can "Go To" a favorite but that's it.

The 1490T, which I have, supports 10 saved routes and they can be transferred from BaseCamp/MapSource/etc.

I guess I will have to go shopping for a new Garmin that will support the importing of routes from BaseCamp.

Be aware that newer models, that'll you'll find in stores and online, don't support traditional Garmin routes but "trips". Any model that has specifications stating that it supports 100 "routes" actually has "trips". You can transfer routes created in BaseCamp to such devices but they'll be converted to trips in the unit. That may suit your needs but you might want to do so research before purchasing. There are many threads here on the subject or you can use Google.

As has been pointed out, most of the new Nuvis do this "trip" thing which has many drawbacks, in my opinion. A few weeks ago I bought a 1490LMT through Amazon for a good price, and it supports old-fashioned routes nicely. I think it's in the process of being discontinued, so if you want one you should get with it. I'm quite pleased with it, even though it's quite a bit larger than the 2455 I used previously. I still use the smaller one around town, but for long-distance stuff that I want to set up in advance, the 1490 suits me much better.

As I've said before, it'd be nice if Garmin made it easier to figure out which of their units work with MapSource and/or BaseCamp, but they don't. Once you know the secret handshake (number of routes supported), you can work it out but it certainly isn't intuitively obvious. Come to think of it, very little is these days with Garmin.

It's been discontinued for some time. Then again so has MapSource. The 1490T is a great unit and can still be purchased
but since it's not the "latest and greatest" it's often overlooked.

As I, and others, have said before I'd rather buy another 1490T than one of the newer models.
  • Nothing to do with Mapsource/Basecamp. All nuvis work with Basecamp and/or Mapsource, and it has nothing to do with routes. Fact is the 13xx series isn't capable of saving routes, even those created on the GPS itself, which is why it doesn't accept routes from Basecamp, Mapsource or any other program.

Having said that I and another regular contributor here both have 1490s and they'll be prising them from our dead hands. I've seen nothing in the later models that would persuade me to 'update' :)

Edit: And while I was writing that Stuart posted :)

Well my hands are often cold this time of year but I'm not dead yet :D

FYI, re the 13xx and routing
