Downloading the Rest of My North American Maps

After reading many posts here I added a Nuvi 1490LMT to my collection so I can have true routes instead of the trip approach that my 2455 blesses me with. However, the onboard memory is too small to hold the whole NA mapset, so I initially just loaded/updated the lower 49 states. Now that I've put a chip in, there should be plenty of room for the whole thing, but I can't figure out how to download the Canada & Alaska part of the set. I tried earlier today, using MapInstall, and was able to update to 2013.4, but it didn't offer the option to update/install the entire file. I tried using Garmin Express, but since it sees the latest map version has already been installed (2013.4), it says I'm all up to date and will do nothing further.

I'm sure the solution to this is obvious to many of you, but I'm stumped.

I load the "lower 49 states" into my 1490T and then put Canada/Alaska/Mexico on a 16GB card.

I believe I documented my procedure in this old thread and here

Using Mapsource to obtain a preloaded map list

I used the same steps, outlined in the above post, to do the same thing for CN NA NT 2013.40 (latest maps).

Thanks for the quick response, Stuart. I'm a little burned out now, but when I've had some time away and am fresh I'll have a stab at the approach you outlined.

I agree it's "messy" and somewhat complicated but it works for me. Of course it assumes you have the maps on your PC.

Here's my MapSource GDB file containing the mapset for Alaska/Canada/Mexico for CN NA NT 2013.40 to save you some time :D
