Printing to Scale

It sure would be nice if basecamp could print to specified scale (like 1:24,000).

This is on our list of possible future improvements.
  • 8 years later, and it would sure be nice if they'd get around to making that improvement! I'd be immediately purchasing at least a few of the Topo 24K map downloads, even given their $99.99 price, if I could print them at a scale compatible with my 1:24,000 map tools.

I can get somewhat up-to-date 1:24,000 topo maps from the USGS, but those are only available for specific quadrangles, so if the place I want a map of is at an edge, or worse, a corner of one of those, I'm out of luck.

I can get 1:24,000 maps of an arbitrarily chosen location from MyTopo, but they use the "historic" USGS Topo maps to generate those, so they'll be from the 1980's, if I'm lucky.

From a bit of research, it seems like I'd be able to print maps at various sizes and specific scales with ArcGIS, but I don't really want to sign up for the $100/year "ArcGIS for Personal Use" license, just to try and find out if it will let me do what I'm wanting. (And seems like it would be absurdly overkill, and potentially require a significant amount of training, just to be able to print a 1:24,000 topo map of any arbitrarily chosen area.)

  • Not going to happen as BaseCamp development has been stopped for years and the team disbanded. It is what it is less vital updates required to keep it working.
