Sudden offset of underlying map

I work with an underlying map downloaded from an OpenStreetMap source that opens in BaseCamp as 'OSM World Routable'. I have created numerous routes over time using the rubber band and have been extremely pleased with the results. I had completed a new route this evening and whatever I might have clicked I do not know but the underlying map was suddenly offset to the right. I cannot state by how many metres because the overlying routes and underlying map converge as I zoom in and diverge as I zoom out.
I have the same underlying map in versions of MapSource. Saving the routes in BaseCamp as a .gpx file and opening the file in MapSource, the routes overlay the map perfectly.
I have exited BaseCamp and reopened it and I have shut down the computer and rebooted it but the appearance remains the same.
Has anyone experienced such a phenomenon? There's always something new out there to surprise us!

[SOLVED]
Panning the map in order to create another route in an attempt to find the answer to my own post, I inadvertently reoriented the map. Reverting it to North, I find that the routes now overlay the map correctly again, yet I cannot repeat the offset. I am none the wiser but at least it is sorted.
