When I tried starting BaseCamp today I got the following error message:

App: BaseCamp
At: 28.02.2013 16:24:24 (UTC)
OS: Windows 7 (64-bit) Service Pack 1
Processor: x86, Processor Level: 6, Processors:4, Model: 42 Stepping: 7, RAM: 4106416
GDI_IMAGEUTILS.CPP-716-4.1.1.0

Active Map Product: Unknown

Installed Map Products:

Map Name: Globale Karte (Garmin Product)
Map Id: 133758977
Map Version: 2.0
Map Type: Bundle
Custom Drawn Map: No
Digital Elevation Model: No

.NET Versions:
.NET FW 1.0 not installed.
.NET FW 1.1 not installed.
.NET FW 2.0 with SP2 installed
.NET FW 3.0 with SP2 installed
.NET FW 3.5 with SP1 installed

OpenGL Version: OpenGL Version Unknown

Attached File: MiniDump

I have submitted a few error reports from the program.

I tried the following, to no avail:

- Reboot
- Delete the database, so that BC would have to create new one
- Uninstall all maps
- Uninstall all Garmin products, delete all remaining files, delete all registry settings, reboot, reinstall BaseCamp
- Start BaseCamp with no peripherals attached to laptop (thought that it might be a USB device problem)
  • On Win 7 64bit I also have the issue with KB2670838 being a silent update from MS and it prevents MapSource or Garmin Express from running. An uninstall is needed to get them working again.

Update: I just had to completely reinstall Windows (64 bit, SP1, German, Professional) due to a broken hard disk.

And again exactly the same thing happened: once KB2670838 is installed, BaseCamp stops working.

This is a really fresh system, so no strange interactions can explain this. It is clearly the update.

    Please fix.

    BaseCamp is starting

Solution for me (Windows 64 bit, SP1, German, Professional, KB2670838 not installed)

    Service was disabled:
    Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v2.0.50727_X64
    Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v2.0.50727_X86

After change from disabled to manual BaseCamp is working
Service > disabled > manual > BaseCamp ok
    (Dienste Deaktiviert > Manuell)

Before i did a complete deinstall of all NET and deaktivated Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5.1 (Turn Windows features on or off)
Then feature on and automatic windows update with some NET Framework 4
No Version of BaseCamp up to 4.2.1 was working, also installation on USB was not starting.

THIS IS WHAT WORKED FOR ME!!!!

The following file was corrupt or damaged:
    Folder: C:\Users\****\AppData\Local\GARMIN_Corp\BaseCamp.exe_Url_bzc2******\4.2.5.0
    File Name: user.config
    The solution:
    1. Delete the file "user.config"
    2. Start BaseCamp
    3. A new file is generated by BaseCamp while BaseCamp starts

I spent several days deleting/installing basecamp, .net 3.5, 3.5.1, 4. blah blah waste of time. above solution worked right away, good luck!

    Hello there,

I can confirm that today I newly installed the actual BC software (4.3.3) on my Win 7 Home Premium, SP1, 64bit system. There was no previous BC on my system. BC didn't start, giving the message as indicated in this thread ("WIC missing or corrupted"). I was not able to install the WIC, as it was giving the other error message ("Setup could not find the update.inf file").

Deinstalling fix KB2570838 did the job! BC runs without any further warnings...

There should be done something by Microsoft and/or Garmin. I recognized that removing fix KB2570838 resolved some other issues on my system as well, e.g. the MS Win7 calculater was not showing up with a proper GUI, now it OK... ;-)

    Best regards
    Klaus
  • Well we're now up to 4.3.4 so this thread is a tad out of date now.
