Garmin Express has uninstalled Basecamp and will not install new map on device!

I have run the new Express to update my Lifetime Europe map and not only has it removed Basecamp from my Windows 7 PC but refuses to load/update on the Nuvi775t. It has downloaded to the PC but I want it on my device as well. The error Express is saying is 'insufficient space on device' This may be so ( 1gb left) but in the past the Lifetime Updater has removed the old map and installed the new one automatically. I do not want to use an SD card.

How do I now go about putting the map on both device and PC?
  • If you read through the other threads about Garmin Express you will see that this has been covered already as there have been numerous reports of problems with Express. The solution is to use MapUpdater, available here:

    download.garmin.com/lmu/GarminMapUpdater.exe

Incidentally Express will not remove Basecamp, so that's another issue :)
  • Yes, mine did too ... never happened before so it seems a bug in Win 7

Possibly. When I uninstalled Garmin Express on my WinXP SP3 box (10 mins after installing it) BaseCamp wasn't touched.

I never tried GE on Win7 x64 since (the later versions of) GarminMapUpdater doesn't work properly on it so I assumed GE wouldn't either.
  • I didn't have Express installed, but MapUpdater works fine on both my Win7 PCs. Update went without a hitch, map showed up in BC and Mapsource. Simpy lost BC when I uninstalled the previous mapset using Windows Uninstall. Very weird

Oh, I misunderstood. I took the thread title to mean that uninstalling GE had removed BC. Upon re-reading the OP I see that title is misleading.

Well if BC was installed with a map product (even long ago) the map uninstaller might've removed it since it was part of the original installation. An old installer wouldn't necessarily know that BC had been updated in the meantime.

Long ago, a map uninstall removed MapSource, and since that time I've always manually removed map data (files and in the "old" days registry entries). These days all one has to do is delete the .gmap folder of a map product to remove it. I actually move the .gmap folder to a backup drive rather than simply deleting it.
  • Think I will in future

Don't believe though BC was installed with a map product, mind you I first installed BC quite a while ago so could be completely wrong

I think you might have been a little too quick to jump to that conclusion. I do know a bit about computers having been involved on the technical side for about 30 years. I can catagorically state it was installing Express that removed Basecamp.

Garmin Express is a real piece of junk... I went to uninstall it and it wasn't listed in the list of installed programs, I reinstalled GE and it still didn't show up.
Here's how I finally got rid of it in Win7 64bit... Open Window Explorer go to the "c:\ProgramData\Package Cache\" there will be folders with strange folder names, click on each one until you find a folder with the file ExpressBootstrapper.exe in it. Click Start the Run (or Windows button and R) type in the full path to ExpressBootstrapper.exe and include the command option "/uninstall" ie: C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{b3564f7e-b362-4f8d-a722-a6c1b2102f0e}\ExpressBootstrapper.exe" /uninstall
    Press Enter to run
    Follow the instructions.
  • Not consistent either then as it was in my list of installed programs, isn't anymore though as I uninstalled it :)

The link works fine, but, where is GarminMapUpdater installed, Is that a one shot, do I have to reinstall it every time?
