I inadvertently posted this under the Mac Software Folder earlier today, now it’s where it belongs! Goober! FYI: I posted a version of this same question at GPS City.
I started a new business that requires sales calls. I was given a nuvi 3590 to ease the burden. Please bear with me as I am VERY new to Basecamp and GPS units, I will likely not use or understand the common lingo!
I have data base of about 1200 contacts that I have geocoded through geoservices.tamu.edu, and then converted to a .gpx file through gpsvisualizer.com. These have been imported to Basecamp. These reside in the "Unlisted Data" folder until I move them into Lists.
Within "My Collection" in Basecamp I created a folder called "Categories". Within that folder I created lists of waypoints I plan to visit on a given day. E.g, the list "Waco1" contains all of the offices I intend to visit in one trip. The maximum waypoints in any list is 22.
To create a route I double-click on a list and the map shows all the waypoints on that list. From this I can visualize and create a workable route. Again, there are no more than 22 waypoints in any given route. The route is stored in the “Unlisted Data” folder with a unique name.
So far I have 9 lists and 9 corresponding routes.
First, I transferred the Basecamp lists to the nuvi’s Internal Storage. I then disconnected the nuvi from the computer and confirmed that the lists show up in “Saved Places” on the nuvi and that the lists are complete. So far so good. Then I reconnect the nuvi to the computer and transfer the Basecamp routes to the nuvi’s Internal Storage.
I disconnect the device again and now I go to “Trip Planner” , where these routes should be stored, and I see the routes listed. Yippee! But, when I open a given route I find only a portion of the stops are listed! This is true for all routes I have imported! For example, a route named "Fred'burg" has 7 stops in Basecamp, but only 3 show up on the nuvi; the "Waco2" route has 22 stops in Basecamp, but only 15 show up on the nuvi. Arrgh!
I have created similar sized routes within the "Trip Planner" app with no problem. However, it is easier for me to use Basecamp to plan my routes, rather than Trip Planner. I can visualize them more easily and I am happier with the results.
Thanks in advance for any guidance..
