How to Delete/Wipe all POI's, Tracks & Waypoints in a 60CSx using BaseCamp?

I am new to BC and am quickly learning. I want to clean-up all the data on the 60CSx. In MS it was easy since I could delete waypoints/routes/tracks from the device.
BC calls it internal storage. I can not figure out how to delete the internal storage of the 60CSx. Here is what I did:
1) I did remove the SD card and format it so it had nothing on it when I connected it.
2) Then BM somehow copied the data back to the 60CSx.
3) I then took the 60CSx and used the menu to delete the tracks.
4) Restarted BM and the tracks were gone
I can not figure out how to delete/wipe the waypoints from the device.

How do I delete all info from a 60CSx?

I am using Win8 64bit with latest BM & plug-in software.

Thank you in advance.

Exactly the same way. Bring up the 'Trip Computer' page > press 'Menu' > choose 'Reset' from the list > and then place a check mark against 'Delete All Waypoints'. It's the option below 'Delete Saved Tracks' which you say that you've already done. Did you miss seeing this option?

Perfect, I forgot/couldn't find that menu. Thank you Alternerus.
While it worked, I find it odd that BC can to easily do it.
What is more puzzling is that after formatting the card and reconnecting it to BC, it repopulated that data. That was before I rebooted BC.
Statement: Can I assume BC can not delete these things from the device (even a 60CSx external SD card)
Question: Does that the data reside on the device rather then the SD card?

What is "BM"? Do you mean BC (Basecamp)?

You are making some wrong assumptions here. Basecamp cannot edit or delete any data from the 60csx, that is a feature that only works with the new(er) handhelds. Tracks/routes/waypoints are not stored on the memory card, they will still be there if you operate the device without a card. The 60csx is an old model that uses a protocol that Garmin abandoned awhile ago. Software on your computer (basecamp, mapsource) actually "talks" to the GPS. First it queries the 60csx for its capabilities, then it asks (for example) if it contains any waypoints and finally it requests for them to be transfered. The data is then sent, one byte at a time. This protocol was originally developed for slow RS232 serial interfaces.

New devices don't work like this, all data transfer is done by simply copying files. The new devices have one file that describes the unit's capabilities and file structure. Basecamp reads that file, then simply copies the other files as needed. The computer and the GPS don't actually "talk" to each other like your 60csx does. The actual data on the 60csx is stored internally in an area that a user cannot directly access. It can only be transfered using the special Garmin protocol.

  • On my GPSMap 60CSx all data reside on the device. They can be seen but not deleted by BaseCamp. They must be beleted on the device as stated by Alternerus.

The SD card is used solely for maps. I have compiled a number of different maps to a gmapsupp.img file filling most of the 1 GB SD card.

I hope this helps. Incidentally, I don't use the 60CSx much anymore. Got a Montana 650 instead.

    Thnaks

    Yes, I meant BC
This has been helpful and makes me realize how much I have forgotten and did not know.
For my purposes (4 kids under 10) the unit is fine and I hope will last a few more years.
    Really appreciate your help!
