Exporting cadastral dataset to Basecamp and Garmin 62sc
Former Member
Hi all, very new to using GPS units, but I have a Garmin 62sc and would like to upload a set of cadastral boundaries (in shapefile format) from my PC to the device. I have converted the polygon file to polyline and successfully loaded them onto the Garmin, but they come out as a series of over 1,000 tracks. What I would like to achieve is having just the one layer. I've tried all sorts of options to no avail. Have also used a GPX to IMG converter and tried uploading as a map, but this produced an empty map. Can anyone advise what the best process would be to follow?
Have you tried gpx2img? That should do what you want, although I have not used it: http://gpx2img.com/
If you want more control, have a look at Mapwel, it can open your shapefiles directly: http://www.mapwel.net/
But you need to realize that Garmin's map format is proprietary and they have never disclosed it. All tools available to create Garmin .img files have been reverse-engineered by their authors and are not sanctioned by Garmin. So this is probably not the right place to discuss them; I suggest you visit the map making forum at GPSFileDepot for help: http://forums.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php/board,2.0.html
There is a lot of good info if you read back through that group, I used to be active there myself. But it has turned into a pretty sleepy place recently... :)
The correct link is http://www.javawa.nl/imgfromgpx_en.html (You are linking directly to the download page, but that link is prone to changes in the future. Also, using that link you will miss the explanation how the program works...)
