BaseCamp 4.1.1 should be available via update from within BaseCamp or via the Garmin web site at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435.

This is a maintenance release that is aimed at fixing the most prevalent issues with 4.1.0.

Fixed an issue where BaseCamp was not responding if a certain GPI file (006D135900.GPI) was present on the device.
Fixed an issue where BaseCamp did not seem to recognize some MTP devices (it was taking several minutes for BaseCamp to display the device). Device detection of such devices should now be much faster.
Fixed an issue with Garmin cloud where syncing between Mac and PC would not work properly.
Fixed an issue with ‘Restore from Previous Version’.
Fixed an issue where using the city finder (in the Find Options “Location” textbox) would lead to a crash if the map did not support city searches.
Fixed an issue with city search on the Global Map.
Fixed an issue with user data search.
Fixed a start-up issue.
Fixed an issue with refreshing find results when the find results were hidden.

Applied 4.1.1 update and now get message when I execute BC "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail." What the &%@#$*! How do I get my previous version back and will my tracks and waypoints still be there? I can't email support because they ask me to log in (after I am successfully logged in to Garmin) and then tell me I have an invalid ID.

What operating system are you running? I have gotten this error on my Vista 64 system when I tried to install a couple of the updates. See this thread: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?17558-Error-Message-lt-Side-by-Side-Configuration-incorrect-gt/

  • Has anyone else noticed a significant increase in the size of the backup file since upgrading to 4.1.1? With 4.0.5 my backup file size was about 22MB. I haven't really increased the number of items since that backup but under 4.1.1 it's now 41MB. Is more stuff now being backed up? Does updating the maps to 2013.40 make any difference?

This is the madness that the Basecamp approach produces. The "old days" with MapSource allowed the filing of discrete folders or files that took up almost no room, besides which it was possible to understand what was going on.

Now it's all in one big conglomerated blob.

    Take it or leave it.

We back up the data from 4.0, as well as the data from 4.1. That's why the size doubled. We do this so that in case something goes wrong with your 4.1 data, you can get your 4.0 data back.

If you delete %APPDATA%\Garmin\BaseCamp\Database\4.0 and re-do the backup, it should be back to 22ish MB.

We are looking into changing backup, so it only backs up the last version, and into providing a way to clean up those folders directly from BaseCamp.
