BaseCamp 4.1.1 should be available via update from within BaseCamp or via the Garmin web site at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435.

This is a maintenance release that is aimed at fixing the most prevalent issues with 4.1.0.

Fixed an issue where BaseCamp was not responding if a certain GPI file (006D135900.GPI) was present on the device.
Fixed an issue where BaseCamp did not seem to recognize some MTP devices (it was taking several minutes for BaseCamp to display the device). Device detection of such devices should now be much faster.
Fixed an issue with Garmin cloud where syncing between Mac and PC would not work properly.
Fixed an issue with ‘Restore from Previous Version’.
Fixed an issue where using the city finder (in the Find Options “Location” textbox) would lead to a crash if the map did not support city searches.
Fixed an issue with city search on the Global Map.
Fixed an issue with user data search.
Fixed a start-up issue.
Fixed an issue with refreshing find results when the find results were hidden.
  • Obviously been jinxed :)

My BC has just frozen after an address search :(
  • Huh...

Just performed several searches in and around Phoenix, AZ, and BaseCamp could not locate Phoenix, AZ in any category.

I was trying some surrounding cities, and they came up, as POI's.

About the time I entered the fourth or fifth search term, BaseCamp gave a 'stopped responding' warning and crashed.

Restarted BaseCamp, and this time city searched that failed the first time work properly...

I just finished my tenth search, no crash.

This will be a very fun bug for Garmin to explore...
  • Another oddity or bug or I just can't figure how to use this new search.
Using city POI I searched for the city of Shelby, NC. Basecamp located it and centered the map on Shelby.
I then try to locate South Washington Street in Shelby,NC
No matter what I try or where I enter the address I'm always taken to and the map recentered on Washington, DC. This is using the Addresses radio button.
How do I find a street address in a city?

I did a search for South Washington street, Shelby, NC. It came up with Shelby, NC and kept looking.

I changed the search to Washington, Shelby, NC and it came up with addresses on North Washington and South Washington.

If you put in to much information and it is not available in the map database you will not find it. I have searched on different mapping software for address I got from a business or what ever and it could not find it. Some places are just not listed in all the map data.

I searched for Phoenix, AZ and found it right away. Searched for other places (see above) and when back to Phoenix, AZ with no problem.

I am running Windows 7 and BC 4.10.

OK, I tried entering Washington, Shelby, NC in the find box up on the menu bar. Basecamp just crashed and report sent.
Restarted BC and tried the search again and it did, indeed, find the street in Shelby,NC.
I tried with N Washington, Shelby, NC and that worked but not with North Washington, Shelby, NC.

So what is the purpose of the "Location" box under the Find Options? It typically says "Center of view" but you can enter something.
I was thinking that is where I would enter the address I was looking for.

Maybe I or we could use a short tutorial from Falagar on how the new search is supposed to work.

OK, one problem I found is that BC was using the "wrong" map set (global). I have manually set it to the "correct" map (2013.30) and search is working much better. (no surprise I guess)

You mean "You" had the wrong map set selected.

BaseCamp can not use the "wrong" map set. BaseCamp uses the map set "You" have selected.

Here's a freeby for you. NEVER, never, never, never .... NEVER use directions (N, North, E, East, etc) or street designations (St, Street, Dr, Drive, Rd, Road, etc.).

You can never know how that information was entered in the map database. And if you guess wrong you won't find anything.

As was recommended above, the less information you use the more likely your search will be successful.

Here's another search tip. When searching in a large metropolitan area that encompasses multiple "cities', center the map somewhere in the metro area and do NOT enter a city name in the search. Just use the street name.

You may think you know what city the street is in but that may not be how it was entered in the database. Or the street runs through multiple adjacent cities and the house number you want is in a different city than you think it is.
