Wish list for Basecamp

As cyclist there are a number of things I would like to see in Basecamp is this the place to make these suggestions?

1 I would like to see the total ascent of a route or track.
2 It would be good if the length of a selected route or track was shown in the bottom bar beside the coordinates also the current length of a route or track being drawn so the length of stages can be monitored as you go, better still also give the total ascent as well, height at the cursor might be interesting to.
3 Routing seems a bit eccentric at times e.g. cycling profile will divert off a road to use a track even though no avoidances are specified. how about a custom activity profile so that routing parameters can be tweaked by the user.
4 Joining 2 routes together is always a balls up whereas joining 2 tracks mostly works.
5 A slider to adjust the auto density of points when converting between tracks and routes, it is a bit coarse at the moment (specifying the number of points depends on the length and how bendy the route is so can only be a rough guess)
5 The route or track properties window dissappears if you click on the map and not on the track or route it needs to stay on top until closed.
6 Forward and backward buttons in the route/track properties to move up and down the list of tracks
7 A means of annotating the map would be useful.

to No 1: already works, but u have to know, that CN Maps have no topographic informations! U need a topo map to get all (graphical) informations about descent and ascent parameters of your planned route.
  • 3. Can do now.
    4. Explain why? I have no problem joining routes.
Your second 5. It does, not sure why yours doesn't or maybe I misunderstood you?
    6. Just click on the other route/track you wish to view and it repopulates the properties window.

    1. You can get a profile of the route but I cannot find a cumulative total of all the up bits which is of interest to a cyclist.
    3. How ? as I said you can change avoidances etc for an activity type but you are stuck with a predefined activity type. I would like more control, you cannot change the way low level routing decisions are made , I do not want to go a mile on a track to avoid 100m of main highway it will do this for cycling even if avoidances are not checked.
4.Maybe it is because my routes are loops Basecamp nearly always joins the wrong ends together recalculating a route with a start and finish close together probably makes no sense to an autorouter.I would like a feature that can be found on some websites where you draw what is a track which follows the road as you click along it,Basecamp does this most of the time but goes wrong at times and heads off down a track when you want to tay on the road.If there was a limit on the percentage an alternative route could be longer this could possibly be avoided.
    5. I will update and see if this still happens It is OK on my laptop.
    6. Just a suggestion for greater convenience if you have the properties placed over the track list so that you can see the map.
  • 3. Go to Options, Activity Profile and click on the 'plus sign' ... you can create as many additional profiles as you like with whatever settings you want.
    6. You can resize the properties window, but only up to a point, if that helps you?
  • Falagar,

Please forgive me if this has been covered already, but I am curios if the following desire is on the books for future BaseCamp release:

Currently, if I view a track/route in BaseCamp with a Topo map enabled, I can see a graph of the track/route elevation profile, and the track/route properties will show elevation details for each point in the track/route. But, if I switch to another map without DEM info, the elevation information is lost.

Can an function be added to BaseCamp to 'save' or 'marry' elevation data to tracks/routes? Certainly, a little pop-up warning would inform the user that all existing data (if present) will be over written, etc.

Perhaps also a context menu function for all tracks/routes/waypoints/photos/etc. to "Get Elevation Data", which would then prompt the user with "From Source..." and list all installed maps with DEM data, allowing the user to choose the desired source and automatically updating the selected data with elevation information.

    Thank You!

This function exists for tracks. Right-click, Advanced, Set Selected Track to Map Elevation.

We'll see what we can do about the other types.

Wow, how did I miss that?

    Thank You!

Are your 24K maps still the most detailed for elevation data, or should I purchase something else?

I appreciate your looking into adding this functionality to other data types - This will be very helpful when comparing data in the same list or folder to each other, knowing we can set them all to the same elevation source and maintain a consistent relationship between them.

Not really my area of expertise, but I believe that is still the case. I am still using the 24k maps myself.

I am hoping for an update soon.

    Wow you are quick!

I am having an issue with this function:

I have a track recorded from a recent cross country trip, passing through multiple 24K map products.

When I set the track elevation using map "A", then load map "B" and repeat (for the next portion of the track), the elevation data for the portions of the track not in the current map are reset to generic values, and not retained from the previous 24K map. This currently makes it impossible to to set my entire track to 24k map elevation data.

    Example:

Is there another feature I am missing that will only adjust the portion of the track within the currently selected map product?

    ...........

In some maps u will get ascend a.s.o directly, if not, set with your mouse the marker into the graph and u will get for the so marked part all necessary data.
