Importing into BaseCamp

Realising that Mapsource that I've happily used for the last 10 years or so is being abandoned, for whatever reason, I;m trying to get to grips with BaseCamp. Getting some of the basics ok, but whenever I try and import data in using "file" the into a folder I've created, it causes to BaseCamp to go into "not responding" sulk. Tried 4.05 and before that 4.1.0 both with the same result. I've connected my Zumo 660 and imported that data ok, so any good ideas?

  • Where is the data you are having trouble importing located, and what data format is it?

I'm not even getting to selecting a gpx file, or any other that as I'm not getting an option to choose an appropriate / wrong type file

    OK, which OS?

I have no issues with this function on WIN8 64Bit PC.

You could also try drag & drop, my favorite method....

Windows 7 Home Premium. I'll have a go at the drag and drop option, thanks for the information.

Can't drop a file in, but opening up the Mapsource file and then copying the routes / waypoints lets me paste them into the imported data folder. So, not ideal, but less frustrating than constantly crashing BaseCamp.

I apologize for the trouble. I remember that this (not being able to import via the menu) was an issue before for some users, looks like we could never find out what is causing this. It definitely works for most people (but of course this is of no consolation to you right now).

If drag-and-drop also doesn't work, what you could do is to just put your GPX files on your Zumo's SD card (temporarily if you like), into a folder "Garmin\gpx". BaseCamp will read the data and you can send it to "My Collection" from there.

Do you have anything noteworthy going on with your computer? Network drives? A floppy drive? I am just really curious what is causing this bug. We try to display the standard Windows file dialog and something goes wrong. We could just never reproduce this issue here, so we don't have a fix.

No network drives or external floppy drives. Importing in via opening up Mapsource, whilst slightly longer is working well. I know it can't be easy fixing bugs that don't even tell you what the problem is!

What is the file extension? .gpx or .gdb or ???
  • Can you share me some of the files you are trying to import? I want to try them here, and see if the file or your PC is having the issue. :)
  • I have the same problem on my laptop but not on my desktop. Both running Win 7. My only thought is that the laptop has a partitioned drive so I wonder if BC is struggling with that in some way? Drag and drop works fine on it though, just hangs with a AppHangB1 error if you try File Export/Import

It's really strange. But at least drag-and-drop works.

I don't think the partitioned drive has anything to do with this, but it might be worth double-checking.

We haven't been able to figure out what's going on there. It does seem to happen more on Laptops.
JOHNARMSTRONG, do you have a laptop or desktop?
