Nuvi 3590 creating long routes in Basecamp

Greetings Forum,

I am new to GPS having just purchased a Nuvi 3590. I am using City Navigator North America 2013.3 and I am using Basecamp 4.1.0

I am planning to travel Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica (thus the purchase of the GPS) I have gone into basecamp and created a new route for each state. Using the pencil insert tool, I have set points to force the route off the highway and go on the roads I wish to travel. Looks great and as I want when looking at it on basecamp. If I click on the route in basecamp it tell me I have 207 points, 86 fia point and a distance of 225 miles. All good. (I think)

Now I plug in my GPS into the computer and using basecamp move the route over to my micro SC card. I then unplug the GPS from the computer and turn it on. On the NUVI I got to apps, trip planner and there is my trip (route) for the selected state. When I pull it up and go to view map, I only get about 1/3 of the map and it abruptly ends way before my designated end point.

It appears I need to break each state up into multiple 100 mile trips.

Has anyone done this type of planing and can provide guidance?

What is the limitation on a given trip?

How many trips can I put on the micro SC card?

I really do not want to take my computer on this trip. Maybe multiple SD cards are needed.

Please help.

Thank you
