How to get rid of distance flag on measure tool?

I am confused which flag you are talking about. Would you mind illustrating your issue with a screenshot.

More than that, I find the whole 'orange' part and text irritating ... if you're using the measure tool just a simple line and a note of distance would do surely? The only time I can see the need for 'area' to come up is if someone wants to calculate the area of a fully enclosed part of the map, or am I missing a use for this?

I agree fully on the area issue as well. Why have it if you only want distance??

A suggestion for the developers would be to have options on the measure tool for (1) distance only, (2) area only, (3) both distance and area. But...DON'T post the info directly on the track you are working on!!! Place it some distance away from the track or like many other measure tools on other programs, place the info on the bottom of the screen. If they insist on using the funky color scheme, then you certainly wouldn't overlook it there.

Since they are having to resolve other major issues on 4.1.0, why not fix this while they are at it? (ref: sussamb post on another forum)

I may be making quite a few quick comparison measurements and using that method is just more cumbersome. Measure tool is the simplest, without the flag covering the roads, etc., of course.

When using the "New Track" tool, the same thing happens; this time the path is covered and completely obscured by the flag saying "New Track". It's even worse since it's not partially translucent!

Only for the first couple of trackpoints. If you continue drawing the track, the flag will get 'left behind'.
You could just zoom in a bit more.

If you want to draw a line following a road, it may be easier to use the route tool.

Having to resort to "workarounds" by using track tools and route tools (and who knows what next) is merely avoiding fixing the very simple measurement tool so that it's "user friendly".
