Basecamp stopped working

Installed Basecamp 4.1.0 onto Windows 7.
Start Basecamp, after connecting Garmin Nuvi 1450, error message pops up "Basecamp application has stopped".
  • You've posted this in the Mac Basecamp forum but assuming you are running Win 7 I'm running 4.1.0 on Win 7 with my 1490 and no problems. You might try reinstalling BC?
  • Uninstalling BC won't delete the data, but as a precaution you can use the back up command (File, Back up) from within BC and store the back up somewhere safe.

I wish we could still use MapSource, Much more stable and easier to use. But since it's not available, does anyone know how I can backup my data?

Why can't you still use Mapsource? It should work fine, although you will need to switch the newest models to Mass Storage Mode instead of MTP mode in order to be recognized by Mapsource.

You can download it here. It is no longer being developed but is still available. Garmin will need to keep it around for awhile because Basecamp can't talk to devices with serial interfaces, and (believe it or not) Garmin still sells some of these. http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209
  • I started getting the same error after updating to 4.1 Tried two different GPS units, restarting, uninstalling/reinstalling, and cursing. Both units worked fine before the upgrade. Basecamp, appears to work fine until or unless I have the GPS units plugged in. If I launch Basecamp (successfully) than plug in the GPS as soon as I click anywhere in the app it crashes. Nothing of any use, to me, in the event log. Windows media is up to date and maps on the GPS are up to date. Windows 7 64

    Same problem in Windows 8

Have the same problem in Win 8: installed Basecamp 4.1 on my new PC, runs fine untill I connect my zumo when this message "Basecamp application stopped working" comes.
Meanwhile tried installing Mapsource: this one runs without problems. No idea what to do with Basecamp.

I have a second issue with this Win 8 PC: I can install the latest map update (CT navigator) without problems using my PC directly on my Zumo, but if I try to install the map update on my PC (either on PC only or both on PC and Zumo) the Garmin map updater program seems to hang during the first fase (Downloading), either in the beginning ("calculating" remaining time stays forever), or at the end, when the process indicator bar is nearly at the end the remaining time indicates suddenly 10 hours, and no more progress.
Result is that I cannot load and unlock maps in Basecamp/Mapsource.

BC 4.1.0 crashes with my Nuvi 255W but works with my Zumo 450. This is running under Windows 7. Patch please!
  • Same problem. I traced it down to a .GPI file in the \garmin\poi folder named 006D135900.gpi. I removed this file, then Basecamp would not crash when connecting my nuvi.
  • Still crashing

Tried removing 006D135900.gpi and I am getting the same behavior; 'Basecamp has stopped working' moments after starting.

Thanks for your help. Basecamp works fine after removing \garmin\poi\006D135900.gpi from the 265WT, but it still crash with my nuvi 1450LMT.
