Cloud Storage

Every Garmin user will have 150MB of cloud storage to sync your data (waypoints, routes, tracks, etc.) between different computers. This should be fairly seemless, just log in with your MyGarmin account, drag and drop data into your cloud storage device and it will be synced on the cloud so can access it if you run BaseCamp on a different machine.

Part I of Find Rework

BaseCamp will now search for several data types concurrently (like the Mac version has been doing for a while). There is no city selector box anymore (you should just be able to search for e.g. "sea world, san diego, ca" from anywhere on the map). We added a find menu. You can search in your data as well now (useful if your collection has grown very large).

Find is still a work in progress, but any feedback would be more than welcome. There will be further find improvements in 4.2.

Custom POIs

BaseCamp can now display and search for Custom POIs (contained in GPI files) that are on the device.

Report Map Errors

Now you can just right-click on the map and report a mapping error directly to Garmin. The form will be prefilled with the map product and the location. Reporting map errors does make a difference and our cartography team is very eager to receive them. So report away!

Just loaded 4.1. Went to look at my Waypoints. They default sort by symbol. I checked to sort by name and decending. I use the sort gear on the list window.

Reload basecamp and the waypoints come back sorted by symbol. I never look at my waypoints by symbol. I like Names sorted in alpha numberbic order. If I make a selection it would be nice for it to be remembered.

    BC

I cannot reproduce this. BaseCamp remembers the sort order for me. Could you give me the exact steps how that would help me reproduce the issue?

    Same problem as Joel
Using win7 64 bits, cit navigator europe 2013.3 (latest version)
Finding cities/places with the new search tool does NOT find the city/place ITSELF even if it is centered on the map. Only street names containing the name of the place/city are returned. When a small place doe not have any street with its own name included, nothing is found!! really seems to be a bug in your new search tool.

However if I try to find POI's included in the map, by e.g entering "camping" those are found.

I cannot reproduce this. Cities should be found under 'Points of Interest' and they do show up for me. You can also refine the POI search to only return cities.
  • My searches stop in each list after 30 results are returned, is this the way it's meant to work?

Yes, that's how it's supposed to work. Would you like more?
  • Problem with a set number like 30 is that it can give you a very concentrated set of POIs for example in a city, and never hit the POI you're after, one of my searches stopped after 0.2 miles. I guess the ideal would be a user defined number (as Mapsource has), or even distance, under Find Options?

Despite this it's good to see that search speed is much faster at last, far better than in previous versions :)
  • Added support for searching and displaying Custom POIs from devices (GPI file support).

I'm guessing BC won't display Garmin Safety Camera POI (GPI file) data. I do have this on my 1490T, and BC displays a "Custom POI" category, but nothing is shown in it.

Does the file show up under Maps > Manage Custom POIs?

[nods] I get a similar issue. In my case the View toolbar is on it's own separate 'line' above the line with the other toolbars on in which there is plenty of space. Drag it down so there is only one line of tools, restart Basecamp and it's back on it's own line. No problem, I thought, I'll just uncheck the View toolbar as I don't use it. Unfortunately unchecking the View toolbar also removes the Map Tools toolbar; please see attachments.

    This is on Win7x64.

Thanks for finding this and reporting! We'll fix it, but this probably won't make it into 4.1.1.
  • Yes.

I guess I don't know how close you need to be to Custom POI's for them to show up.

You have to be pretty close (or very high detail) for them to show up. It's probably easiest to search for them. Ctrl-Alt-F. Points of Interest. Pick 'Custom POIs' in More Options Dropdown.
