Cloud Storage

Every Garmin user will have 150MB of cloud storage to sync your data (waypoints, routes, tracks, etc.) between different computers. This should be fairly seemless, just log in with your MyGarmin account, drag and drop data into your cloud storage device and it will be synced on the cloud so can access it if you run BaseCamp on a different machine.

Part I of Find Rework

BaseCamp will now search for several data types concurrently (like the Mac version has been doing for a while). There is no city selector box anymore (you should just be able to search for e.g. "sea world, san diego, ca" from anywhere on the map). We added a find menu. You can search in your data as well now (useful if your collection has grown very large).

Find is still a work in progress, but any feedback would be more than welcome. There will be further find improvements in 4.2.

Custom POIs

BaseCamp can now display and search for Custom POIs (contained in GPI files) that are on the device.

Report Map Errors

Now you can just right-click on the map and report a mapping error directly to Garmin. The form will be prefilled with the map product and the location. Reporting map errors does make a difference and our cartography team is very eager to receive them. So report away!

We haven't gotten around to hooking this in, sorry. It's on the list.

I hope in your list very very near the top ;)
Since 4.0 BC is grown to a usable piece of software, there are (for me) only tiny corrections necessary. I look forward.......
  • Ctrl '-' works for me when I just tried it.

I get scale 3000km on every map. The same was with BaseCamp 4.05 but I think it worked earlier.

Which older Garmin map did you use?

    Poland GPMapa 2010.3

Maybe I'm wrong about indexed search?

Probably BaseCamp looks for a city first and then search near for a street. This doesn't work, if there are multiple cities with the same name. BaseCamp gets stuck with first city and can't find street name near it. But it centers map position at this city.

The same happens with cgpsmapper maps. And with City Navigator if I start searching when map is positioned at this wrong city.

If I drag a list of waypoints or the individual points themselves to my cloud icon, I get the following error. Am I doing something wrong? There are about 500 waypoints in the list.

  • I do have these categories show up for me with CNNA 2013.3. Can you try to close BaseCamp, delete the product cache and launch BaseCamp again?

The product cache is located at "C:\Users\FALAGAR\AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp\ProductDataCache" for me with Windows 7.

OK Thanks. I did find the equivalent path in Win/XP and deleted the cache. That brought the categories back. I'll remember that for future releases.

Yeah. It finds the first city first and then searching near that city. If there are several cities with the same name, that might cause issues. In the US, you also add the state (like Miami, FL) to avoid confusion. It might work on Polish maps if you add the "wojewodstwo".

Does dragging a single waypoint work?

    Bien cordialement

J'ai plusieurs e mail donc [email protected]

There is a 'Find' menu now, and a find search bar, or you can hit Ctrl-F to start a search.

Just enter the name of a place and the city name and start the search. For example, try searching for "tour eiffel, paris, france".

I do not speak French, so I had this translated by Google Translate.

Does dragging a single waypoint work?

Yes, that works. Also tried dragging 3 waypoints and it worked. Dragging about 10 worked too. But if I "select all" in my list and drag, I get the error. Is there some limit to how many waypoints can be dragged?

Also, when I started Basecamp again it didn't log me in even though I chose the "remember me" option - I had to enter my username and password again. However, I was able to drag things to the cloud without signing in anyway (when I double-clicked the cloud it said I wasn't logged in).

Also curious, is the privacy policy for cloud data posted somewhere? I saw quite an extensive policy listed for Adventures in the license agreement, but no mention of cloud data.

We'll have to look into that.

It was my impression that the license agreement is supposed to cover cloud storage as well, but that's not really my area of expertise. I'll try to find out.

    Please do.

And that policy information should be available from within BaseCamp.

I certainly am interested in where my data is stored and who has access to it, and for what purposes it may be used without my consent, if any.
