I live in Africa where internet connectivity is still science fiction in many parts. Where it does exist, it is very expensive. Mapsource had an offline manual which helps a lot when there is no internet connectivity. Does Basecamp have one? If not, Basecamp should also have one please.
You have to access via the internet, but the files are easily opened and saved for later study.
Would it be possible for Garmin to take these existing files and assemble them for easy one click download for people without reliable , continuous connectivity? When travelling in western North America off the beaten path , connectivity is the exception rather than the rule.
BaseCamp doesn’t install maps on your GPSr. It starts the application MapInstall, which can be run independently, and it does the installation.
I think a suggestion to have MapInstall save and load map set lists would be useful for a lot of people. By map set lists I mean a list of the tiles to be installed and not .img files.

Why not just archive the *img files of the mapsets on your HDD? Then you can delete some from the GPS if you don't need them for months and just copy them back when you do want them. Works for me! I do rename them so I know whether they are partial installs of a larger Mapset, but the GPS looks at the internal name so it doesn't care what you name them as.
