Struggling with routes

Hi, just got a 2445 garmin and am trying to use basecamp to program routes on the pc. Just done a couple of local routes to test it, and am having problems. The main problem I have with the routes are that it seems if you miss a midway waypoint (EG choose to go a different route) it simple never gives up trying to route you to that point! Even passing through the next waypoint doesn't make it give up wanting to go through the point.

I would have thought at some point it realised you were not going through that point and it would give up, but seems not. Also, if you do not go precisely through the waypoint you get the same thing happen - wants to redirect you back to it even after passing through the next waypoint. I have just been for a test drive whereby one waypoint wasn't precisely located exactly where I drove, and it would not give up even after passing the finish point of the route.

Am I doing this wrong???

I have the 2555LMT, Sorry to say that is the way the "Trip Planner" works, & I would think it is the same on the 2445 & 2555 units. The older units that used routes were the last of the good GPS units made for route planning. I'm trying to sell the 2555 because its not what I want, Garmin has done a big dis-service by dumming down these units. I bought a new 1490MLT (which is the last unit to use routes) and 2 used 2720 units, all of which use NT maps and are miles ahead of the New Nuvis.

You are not alone finding this out after the purchase. May want to return the 2445 and go for the 1490LMT?

Have you checked the route options and avoidances?
  • You're replying to an old thread, but the way trip planner deals with skipping via points is the way it works, regardless of routing/avoidance settings.

    Hello,

I own a Garmin 2555 and I am trying to create a custom route that is not the shortest or the fastest. The issue is that seemingly at each via point it announces that I have arrived at my destination when I have not. The route I am creating is a course which would mock a driving test and it cannot give unneeded directions. I have tried to use Mapsource (didnt seem to work) basecamp and POI loader but nothing has worked so far. Any help would be great!
