Garmin Express - Software for Keeping Nuvi, Zumo and Dezl (And Some Others?) Updated

Is there going to be a forum created for Garmin Express or am I blind, and there's already one?

http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html

I downloaded the Mac version of Express this morning and ran it with my Montana 650 connected. Looks interesting and useful, but it seems to have some issues. It saw the Montana and offered a Lifetime Map Update so I let that start. I then went to the Extras tab where it seemed to think that all the vehicles and voices were not compatible with the Montana, when I know at least many of them are compatible, because they're already on my Montana.

Is there any way to communicate with the developers? There's nothing I could find in the software or the Garmin Support site which tells me how.

Garmin's servers have been slow, so don't change any OS X settings just yet. It works OK on my iMac (10.8.2) but reports my nuvi 760 needs a map update (it doesn't). I haven't tried a map update but it recognizes my zumo 660 and shows appropriate updates. I'm leery of trusting the completeness of its backup function.

Just bought a nuvi 2475LT and part of the deal was one free update to the installed maps. The website tells me that my maps are two versions old - 2013.10 latest are 2013.30 - but Garmin Express tells me that they are up to date!

So far all attempts to update the maps have failed so I don't have a lot of faith in Garmin at the moment.
  • Log into myGarmin, select myMaps and download from there ... note though that a new map update is due any day now, to 2013.40, so you may want to wait although note that you don't just get one free update, but any update in the first 90 days so you could update to 2013.30 now and 2013.40 later :)

Thanks but I've been down that route.

When I click on Download it takes me to the download Garmin Express page -

Which tells me that my device is up to date and does not offer to download anything. What I need is a link to the map file(s) so that I can download them directly.
  • There was an update to Express for Mac (2.1.1) and PC (2.1.6) in the last few days. Hopefully it'll work better than before.

It's possible that the map update has been downloaded to your computer, but not applied. This happened to me in the update to 2013.30.

Garmin fixed it this way for me: A Garmin employee called me on the phone and took control of my Mac computer through a remote application, navigated to the place where the download had been saved, and clicked on the file to apply it.

Here's a screen shot of where the file was on my computer. (Never mind the arrow at the top left - that's just obliterating the computer name.)

    Thanks GEOMONSTER,

I read elsewhere that the file may well have been downloaded but not applied. But I have thoroughly checked and there is no sign of it on the disk.

I have emailed Garmin support about the problem - will wait for their reply.
