How Do I load Maps on Basecamp?

Well if a Map shows in MapSource it should also display in BaseCamp. Are you sure you've selected the map in BaseCamp? Since BaseCamp comes with a default map (Global Application Basemap v2) you have to initially select a different one if you want to see that by default.

As to whether BaseCamp or MapSource is better that is your choice. Play with both and see which you prefer. Both can be installed and used at the same time. That said MapSource isn't going to be developed any further.

Mapsource will not be fully compatible with your Dakota. It will work fine to send data to the Dakota (maps, routes, waypoints, tracks) however it will not properly receive data from it. This is due to the fact that Garmin changed the way these are stored on the newer devices. As Stuart said, Mapsource was discontinued around 3 years ago so it doesn't know how to find the data on these devices.

If a map is showing in Mapsource and works with MapInstall, it should also appear in Basecamp.

Thanks! Its's showing on Basecamp now. I restarted my PC then started Basecamp. I can see the topo map now. Strange though that I had to restart.

Thanks! Basecamp is showing the topo map after I restarted my PC. That is kinda strange though!

Glad that it's working. I suppose a variety of things might have caused the problem. For one thing, if you install a map while the Basecamp is running then it will not show until your quit and restart the program.

My problem is that once my etrex20 is unplugged from my PC, the topo maps are no longer displayed and are no longer an option in the Maps tab?

I would like to be able to use Basecamp with my Topo maps WITHOUT my device pugged in?
