Bug? Rest Area/Tourist Info category missing from Find function

I often search Auto Services/Rest Area-Tourist Info on my 665 to avoid leaving toll roads or turnpikes to get gas, or simply to look for a rest stop when riding a 1k mile Iron Butt motorcycle day. I have Rest Areas/Tourist Info checked in both my Auto and Moto Activity Profiles but the sub-category does not show up in the drop-down menu of the Find toolbar.

Rest Areas/Tourist Info now seem to show up as non-icon'ed "Others" when searching All POI, but that lumps them in with dry cleaners and hair salons, essentially rendering the search useless for all the clutter. Two specific examples of Service Areas that show up in a Find/Auto Services/Rest Area in both my zumo and Mapsource are the Montvale, NJ Service Area on New Jersey's Garden State Pkwy and Chicago's Lincoln Oasis on I-80 near the junction with Hwy 394 - they only show up when searching "All POI" or "Other" in BC.

Is this a bug, or is Garmin now defining the sub-category differently in BC than on the zumos?
  • I vote for bug, but you’ll have to wait for FALAGAR to confirm.

My guess would be that the categories/sub-categories in the Find list come from the POI database associated with the selected map. I’m not sure that profile changes will or should alter the list, although it might affect the search results. Therefore, I am surprised that Auto Services > Rest Area/Tourist Info didn’t appear in the drop down menu.

Since your examples can be found on your unit and in MapSource via the Rest Area/Tourist Info sub-category, it shows that they are categorized that way in the POI database and the problem is most likely with BaseCamp. I find it odd that your examples show up under the Other > All Sub-categories. It seems to indicate that the BaseCamp is not reading(?) all the categories/sub-categories in the POI database and placing these items in a catch-all Other category.

Which map are you using? I think it's probably a bug as well, knowing the map should make it pretty easy to confirm.

I to use the feature and can not find it in BC. I have tried with NA NT 2013.2, NA NT 2013.1, NA NT 2012.4.

However in NA NT 2009 the references to Auto Services-->Rest Areas/Tourist show up. Looks like a bug somewhere.....

I can definitely reproduce this. We'll see what we can do, the fix won't make it into 4.1 though.
