BaseCamp compatible devices

I'm trying to find a list of current Garmin "on the road" models that are compatible with BaseCamp. I want to be able to create my own route on the PC and upload and follow the route on the device. I currently have a 255W and 50LM that I have discovered are not compatible. I am looking at the 2595LMT or the Zumo 660 but it is not clear as to whether these models are compatible. The Zumo 350LM is specific in stating compatibility with BaseCamp but that seems to be the only model.

The Zumo models are too expensive so a car based model that I can use on the motorcycle (does not need to be waterproof) would be preferable if it was compatible with BaseCamp

I use a StreetPilot 2720. You will need to purchase from eBay since I do not think Garmin sells it any more.
  • What you mean is you want a unit that will accept routes/trips from Basecamp. See this FAQ from Garmin which covers how and which models will accept routes/trips:

How do I access routes transferred from the computer on a nuvi, LIVE, dezl, or zumo device?

Routes can be created on the computer in programs such as MapSource, BaseCamp, RoadTrip, or MapQuest, and then transferred to certain models of nuvi, LIVE, dezl, or zumo devices. Once the created routes have been transferred, you may access them on the device. On certain models, the routes must be imported before they can be accessed.

    To access transferred routes on a nuvi 465, 500, 700, 705, 800, 805, 1400, 1690, 5000 series or a zumo 220, 400, 500, 600, or 605 series:

    1.Touch Tools
2.Touch My Data or User Data
    3.Touch Import Route(s) from File
4.Select the routes you would like to import
    5.Touch Import
The device will now import the selected routes. The routes that were imported can be found in the Routes option under "Where To?".

To access transferred routes on a nuvi 295W:

1.Touch Where To? on the main menu
    2.Touch Routes
3.Touch the menu button (three horizontal lines)
    4.Touch Import Routes
The device will now import the selected routes. The routes that were imported can be found in the Routes option under "Where To?"

To access a transferred route in a zumo 350, dezl series, LIVE series, or nuvi 2400, 2405, 2505, 3400, 3500, or 3700 series device:

    1.Touch Apps
◦Touch Tools on the dezl 560 series
    2.Touch Trip Planner
3.Allow time for the device to automatically import the trip/route
These Trip Planner devices will take several minutes to automatically import trips into the Trip Planner. The import will automatically begin, but no message will appear on the device indicating that the import is happening. Once the import is complete, all transferred routes will be displayed under a category called Unscheduled Trips in the Trip Planner.1 Until the trips show up in Trip Planner, please do not turn off the device or connect it to a computer.

*Please note: When routes are imported to your Garmin device, the route may change due to navigation settings within your device.

    Thanks for the info.

What nav settings effect the route on import? How should these settings be set so the route does not change? It's kinda pointless to import a custom route just to have the device change the route.

If the computer is set for say "Car" and the device is set for say "Truck" the routes may be different.
  • Make sure you use the same map on Basecamp as the one on your GPS. Then ensure 'avoidances' on the nuvi and BC match. I've never had a route change once the map and BC settings are the same.

Even when the maps are identical, and the settings are the same for vehicle, the route may change once downloaded to the unit. My best guess is that the routing algorithm in each GPS unit is not identical to that of BaseCamp. Identical maps and settings in two different GPS units will often generate a different route.
  • Yes there is of course always a possibility ... But I've never seen a difference on mine provided take the steps I outlined there's a good chance the routes will match. Best to always check though :-)
