Map Selection

Being new to basecamp I would like to know if I can have it see the licensed map I have downloaded to the PC & the device ver 2013.30 without connecting to the device. Its a nuisance to have to remove from the car just to do some advance route preparation or experimentation.
Cheers - Geoff
  • Did your GPS come with 2013.30 on it? If so you won't be able to get that onto your PC.

However you will be able to update that for free in the first 90 days, or more than that if you have lifetime maps. When you download the update select 'update to PC and device' under 'Install options', then Basecamp will be able to use it.

    Thanks for reply

No it came with 2012 I have updated to the latest 2013 but selected download to device only. I have been around the loop again and found the 're-install' option and this time selected PC. (It came with lifetime updates). Is the issue the location of the download folder. Downloads (by default) went to Docs..\Apps..\Garmin\lmu Maps\EU2013.30 whereas BaseCamp is in Progs..\Garmin\BaseCamp. The question since you say it can do it is therefore is it possible to redirect or do I do a reinstall and get it to put the data in the BaseCamp folder. Or maybe simply move the EU2013.30 folder to BaseCamp or BaseCamp\Maps where the Global map is?
  • If you downloaded to the default folder then BC will see it. Not sure which OS you're using but in my Win7 maps are in Program Data/Garmin/Maps.

You could try moving the folder, and if that doesn't work do another install to PC and ensure you leave the download folder as chosen by the installer.

I'm on XP. I have got it working. I examined the file structure in BC and Global BaseMap was in a folder \Maps\....gmap found that extension name in the 2013 City Nav tree it was a sub folder in the download so I moved that level to BC\Maps.
I guess this difficulty has come about because I have only just discovered BC. Previous initial download was from web\Garmin\dashboard. Perhaps I should now use BC to manage future updates.

Thanks - your replies got me probing about. Good job I'm a retired computer engineer, Joe Soap would have no hope.!!
I've got a couple of different questions but they can wait
    Cheers
