Share Basecamp Adventure without publishing to cloud

I have had a good look around the forum but cannot find out how to share an adventure without publishing to cloud. I merely want to email the file of the adventure to friends (who have basecamp installed) so that it will be saved locally on their computer. Using the email feature in Basecamp just send the link at the Garman website to the recipient, but of course if its been archived, the recipient can't get it.
Adventures should have the facility so that they can be accessed by invitees only.

Alos, how can I store the help function locally, help is of little use if there is no internet connection or its blocked.

Thanks in advance!

I am afraid I have bad news for both questions.

Sharing of adventures is supposed to go through the cloud.

However, if you feel adventurous (pun very much intended) you could try to copy the data from %appdata%\Garmin\BaseCamp\Database\4.0\Adventures from you own computer to your friend's computer and they should be able to see the same adventures. Each directory (with a weird name like 7bebdd8b-f791-4eca-84a2-f68a99560e7e.adb) inside of %appdata%\Garmin\BaseCamp\Database\4.0\Adventures is one adventure. So you'd have to figure out which one is the one you want to share. The easiest would be to look at the photos inside the adventure folder. In case you don't know how to browse to that folder, hit Windows+E to open Windows Explorer, then copy-paste %appdata%\Garmin\BaseCamp\Database\4.0\Adventures into the bar on top and it should get you where you need to be. At your friend's machine, repeat the same steps to get to the directory, and copy the adventure folder there. This might be a bit cumbersome, but it should work.

We are thinking about allowing users to create private adventures that can only be seen by certain users, but I am not sure when this might happen.

As to your second question, I don't think there is a official way to do that right now. I've contacted the help team, maybe they can add a magic 'Download Help' button to the help web site.

    Any Update for Private Adventures?

I am sure there are many out there like me who are hunters who do not want to divulge their hunting (or fishing) spots to everyone in the world but would like to be able to share their hunting adventures with friends.

Is there a way to do this yet? If not when will "Adventures" become "sharable" for what must be a lot of us who have private adventures?

    Thank You; Chukar

Unfortunately, there are no concrete plans to do this at his time. It's still on the table but there are too many other things going on right now.

As a work-around, you could use the following work-flow which would make it very unlikely for someone to see your adventure:

    1. Publish your adventure.
    2. Tell your buddy to download it.
    3. "Archive" the adventure. Now other people will not be able to find it or download it.
    4. "Unarchive" the adventure whenever someone else needs to download it again.

    Repeat steps 3&4 as necessary.

Not ideal, of course, but it's pretty unlikely that someone will download your adventure if it's only searchable for a few hours (or minutes, if you time it right).

Agreed its not ideal at all as who knows who has access to the Adventure while up (and the archive version) and if you forget to archive it say goodbye to your privacy.....The adventure option is a really cool idea but as is probably not being used by many.....who wants anyone and everyone to know your favorite spots whether it be hunting, fishing, hiking, biking, camping etc.? Noone does and that is why you dont see very many being posted. Can not see why Garmin spent the effort to create the software and then did not follow thru with implementing it in the proper fashion where people can utilize it.

Its still cool to make an Adventure and keep on your harddrive but would be 10 times better to be able to privately share.

how do you email an Adventure?

OK, so is there a way to email an Adventure?

Just went to the Garmin Web page (http://adventures.garmin.com/en-US/) and the on first and fourth paragraphs Garmin says:

"Garmin Adventures provides a free, interactive way for you to swap your stories with a community of fellow explorers, brag to your buddies about your travels, or let friends and family find your favorite spots.

    "SHARE
Send Your Story to Friends and Family
You can email your adventure, share it on Facebook® and Twitter®, or post it in your favorite forums. When you publish, you're also sharing your adventure with a community of fellow explorers who can see where you went and what you experienced along the way."

Does this not imply that you can share privately?
  • No, it only means that you can email the link to the publicly available adventure...
