Is it possible to get a look at any Birdseye images without buying the subscription. I only ask because if it looks like google earth its pretty much useless for me. Why are all the aireal things done in summer? Here in Maine with all the leaves on you can't see anything, just a giant green carpet.
You can download into Basecamp without needing a subscription, you only need that to download to a GPS. My observation is that there is little difference between the two.

It does have to be plugged in, then click on Utilities>Download Birdseye Imagery

No difference in map detail, but you can only make ONE BirdsEye map without the subscription (each new track overwrites the last), and you are limited to a much smaller map size in the Demo mode.
Your GPS (which must be Birsdeye capable) does have to be plugged in, although Birdseye is then downloaded into BC, not to the GPS ... I didn't say it doesn't need to be plugged in in my first reply, just that you don't need a subscription to download it into BC.
Unless something recently changed (my subscriptions have expired and I haven't tried recently), if you own a compatible GPS you just plug it and and then Basecamp will let you download Birdseye imagery. Regarding the source of the imagery, it is not the same as Google although there could be some areas that match. You will have to look at your specific area to see what it looks like. The imagery I have downloaded for my own area (southern NJ) was taken in the winter and shows everything very well. Google, as you note, is pretty useless here because it was taken when the tree canopy was full.
OK, so I bought a subscription and downloaded a vast map. It was set to load onto the device automatically but it didn't. However, I can see it downloaded in Basecamp, so its there. In Basecamp I go to Birdseye\Download Birdseye imagery an it says "You must select My collections or a list in th Library" before proceeding... What 'my Collections? What Library? Where are these located? On the GPS? On the PC? In Basecamp? Re-downloaded the map, disappeared, now not even in Basecamp. Now, this is upsetting because in my part of the world it costs about as much in data costs as it the Birdseye subscription cost in the first place, so now I have spent about $90 and a few hours of time and I have nothing to show for it. The actual file locations for downloads data appear to be hidden, does anybody know where Birdseye puts downloads? At least then I can secure the data. Any ideas? It looks like it is going to be simple, but it isn't. :confused:
My Collection is generally the top level in Basecamp data, you should see it it the left hand top pane?
Lists and additional folders are created by the user ... just right click My Collection and select New List or New Folder. I have one called BirdsEye where I store all my BirdsEye. If you've downloaded it then it will either be on your device or in Basecamp, it can't simply disappear unless you have deleted it. Once you find it you can drag/drop it wherever you want to put it. On your GPS it should be in the BirdsEye folder, in Basecamp whichever folder/list you choose.
