Turning off via point announcements on the GPS?

On Basecamp you can right click on the via points and turn off announcements of the via points, which I did. but apparently this does not carry over to the GPS? Is there a way for the GPS (3550) to not announce the via points? I just want the points to be in the background to shape the route.
  • Very few devices support the don't announce feature available in Basecamp at this time. Basecamp is ahead of most device implementations in that respect. To my knowledge only the Zumo 340/350 support it. Older Zumos can be made to not announce by placing via points on intersections or on roadpoints with no address. But that is not related to the basecamp feature. My Montana will always announce no matter what. Hopefully we will see more devices support the feature over time.

Thanks for the information. The more I find out the less appealing my new 3550 GPS and Basecamp is. I still have and really like my 1690 and Mapsource. I thought I would upgrade to a 3550 but it seems like a step backwards with not supporting routes. Maybe I'll get used to it.
