The first video sure makes it looks easy.

After two hours I stumbled onto how to find my home address.

Now, when I can finally go back and drag it into a starting place for a route, I cannot start a route!!

Base camp insists I go back packing.

Do I look like I'm going %$%$@@ back packing!!

FRUSTRATION!!!! I remember why I HATED!!!!!!!!!!! Windows and bought a MAC, last century!!

What is the trick??

How do I kill the Backpacking option?!!

Or, what's the secret, the inside skiny, on how to start a route?!!

Thanks

  • In Windows look under Utilities/Options/Activity Profiles. I assume there must be the same thing on Mac.

    What does this mean?

Activity Profile is and was MC.

    Still the same problem.

Cannot get to the point where I can start a route.

I've tried the Help section--similar problem. Basecamp does not function the way the Help section says it should.

I tried removing the program and then downloaded it again.

    No longer forced into backpacking.

But, back to the program not working like the video represents it does. Not working like the help file says it does.

What do I have to do to just get to the starting point??

Is there a tutorial that actually starts with the way basecamp starts when first down loaded?

Have you come across this yet?

I can understand your frustration as I shared it for a long time. I had long ago pretty much abandoned BaseCamp myself and only recently decided to give learning it another try mostly out of sheer bloody-mindedness. Anyway, I didn't like being defeated by a program.

And yes, the lack of a decent manual is annoying and mystifying.

BaseCamp wants to do everything, as compared to the simpler and more intuitive MapSource, but at the current price of being somewhat arcane, with a steep learning curve. But it's has been decreed to be the only flavor on the menu so I reckoned I better get used to it.

The above site, in combination with the videos, helped me get started. When I became stumped, helpful people on this forum filled in some of the blanks for me. I'm hardly an expert...more a rank beginner...But I'm a lot less cranky about it than I was.

PS: Don't try to learn it in a hurry. That was my mistake the first time.
