Dupicate waypoints?

Have imported all my files *.gdb into Basecamp. These are now listed under My Collections.
Then when looking at the individual files, I noticed that some of the waypoints had changed names. I tried to change them back but they say another waypoint of the same name exists. What GIVES? They are in different lists so therefore, I should be able to have waypoints of the same name.
  • Basecamp is built around a database concept. An object (waypoint, route, track) can exist only once in Basecamp. If you try to import an object with name of an existing object it gets a number appended to it and becomes a new separate object. Lists are not files like your *.gdb. Different files can have objects with the same name. The Basecamp database cannot. Lists in Basecamp contain pointers to objects rather than the objects themselves.

Basecamp requires a whole new way of thinking about your data when you come from Mapsource. Importing all Mapsource data into Basecamp in one go is not the best approach. I have imported Mapsource data from about 15 years back into Basecamp piece by piece. It requires a lot of cleanup during the process but in the end it's worth it.
