Problem export multistop route to nuvi 3490

I just purchased the Nuvi 3490 LMT.

I purchased this model because of Garmin's website saying that the model has multi stop route (Trip or Itinerary planner) support. I installed Basecamp imported a GPX route file from MapPoint and the route imports to Basecamp fine, but when I send it to the attached 3490 device it does not show up in the Route Planner. I have attempted directly adding the GPX file to the GPX folder on the device, but it is not found under Route planner.

The GPX file is found when brought up saved, but not as a Route only as a collection of Waypoints which is usesless to our company. I have spent ours attempting to open the device instead with Map Source or to alter the GPX file with GPSBabel and other utilities. Map Source,

I know is no longer supported, but apparently has better route export functions; cannot see the 3490 even after installing all drivers. There are other forums with similiar Map Source problem posts connecting to the nuvi 3490.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Be aware that new zumo don't support routes anymore. Zumo 340/350 use trips like new nuvis. I already have seen long threads with complains and people returning their new zumo back. For bike users it is an unpleasant surprise, like nuvi buyers suffered 2 years ago.

The Zumo 350 has the best support for BaseCamp routes. It doesn't recalculate them and honors the 'do not announce' setting from BaseCamp. It looks like it does turn the BaseCamp routes into trips, but it supports them.

Bought /tested Route export to Nuvi and it does as described by not well.

The problem is we have a regular routine delivery route and it just has too many points.

I WAS able to export to the device from Basecamp with the Nuvi 1490.

The problem is since we have 100-200 route waypoints the device completely chokes. There also seems to be a upload limitation of around 150 as some of the larger routes I had to split in half.

Most of the time when I switch routes the device won't display the map even after waiting long periods of time. I have to reboot and load the map first that I want.

There is no easy way to skip a waypoint. Say we see that the customer gets skipped that day the driver has to hit the route add/remove stop select delete and then it takes 5 minutes+ to recalculate the route. I know it is because it is an older device.

There doesn't seem to be a way to jump to a point in the route as well unless we just import that one point nor to pause or silence device if there is an unexpected stop that didn't make it on the GPS route, but maybe I am expecting too much.

I just wish there was a commercial grade high powered GPS that could do what I am trying to do.

Import a route of 100-200 points and allow for easy skipping of points.

Maybe I should blow the $700 and try the Zumi.

You guys have given me some really great feedback. Any thoughts?

It works well with my 1490T. Both BaseCamp and MapSource work well with it.

Thanks for the advice. I have had some success, in that Basecamp will allow me to transfer a saved route to my 3490LMT. And, if I select the device within Basecamp, Basecamp shows the route. But I CANNOT find the route anywhere on my device when I disconnect it from my computer. I have searched everywhere!!!

Any ideas where it may be hiding? (as Basecamp certainly sees it on the device!)
Part of the joy of the Nuvis is that once the route is transferred to the device it's then necessary to "import" the route within the device. I have two different Nuvis and both are different regarding what menu sequence is necessary to achieve the import.

Why this two-step process is required is anyone's guess. I certainly have no clue.
