BaseCamp 4.0.4 is available for download at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4435.

The update from within BaseCamp should also be working, or will be working soon.

Version 4.0.3 got skipped because we found and addressed an issue internally before it was made available for the public.

This is a maintenance release, meaning this is all about bug fixes and small improvements, not new features.

This is the list of changes:

Fixed some issues with publishing adventures.
Fixed an issue with remembering the layout of the data and map panels.
Fixed an issue with remembering the positioning of the toolbars.
Fixed some layout issues in Windows XP.
Fixed ordering of photos during adventure playback.
Fixed various stability issues with route properties.
Fixed issues with the route and track join.
Fixed some device and adventure transfer issues.
Fixed issue with gdb and kml import.
Fixed issues with adventure playback.
Fixed an issue with exporting waypoints with dog icons.
Fixed an issue where orphaned route via point would remain on the map in certain cases.
Fixed an issue where geotagged photos were not being cleaned up after deletion.
Fixed an issue with the notes tab where links where not being stored properly.
Fixed various other stability issues.
Improved speed for displaying the properties of an adventure for the first time.
Improved transition when entering/leaving adventure playback mode.
Increased precision in which we display speeds.
  • Thanks. Got it. Just wondering if this

Fixed an issue with remembering the layout of the data and map panels.

    covers this.

I have a number of folders under "My Collection" but no matter what I do one folder is open (expanded), showing all the lists within, when BaseCamp is opened even if all folders were closed (collapsed) when the program was last shutdown. Not a big deal but it is sorta annoying ;)

    Make a new folder i.e. - "NEW"

I just keep a folder called "NEW". Before I close BC, I click on the "NEW" file so when I open BC the next time I have a clear slate. I also create items in "NEW" and then I send them where ever I want and then I delete all the items in "NEW" so it's blank for the next time I start BC.

I don't think this was supposed to be fixed.

I'll take a note of this, hopefully we can get this fixed for a later version.
  • when will the links be active to download?

You mean the link in Falagar's post that I used, hours ago, to download and install 4.0.4?
  • Hmmm, well I used Firefox to get 4.0.4

Often when Garmin releases new software their server(s) get overloaded and you can't download for a bit.

You might try an alternate link (used by the BaseCamp internal updater).

  • Running BC 4040 on WinXP SP3 32bit:

Tool Bars still do not remember their position after closing and restarting BC.

Also, I close all Folder Trees in My Collection and select an empty folder titled "Blank" before closing BC, yet each time I open BC, it randomly selects a Folder from My Collection and displays the folder tree open with all data displayed on the map.
  • Strange ...

Both my PCs (running Win 7) and with Basecamp 4.0.4 work fine ... toolbars stay where they are and BC opens where I last left it
  • Does anyone else have problems installing BC4.0.4 on Win8 x64 ? After installing BC 4.0.4 , when I click "start basecamp now", it does not start.
Starting it manually does not work either, as no BC exe file seems to exist in the Garmin folder - somehow the installation seems corrupted.

    Thank you!

I wouldn't have considered the added precision on speeds to be a bug fix but rather a feature (and one I've been waiting for for a year!)
Thank you so much for finally adding this, it makes my hiking data much more useful. :)
  • I have been working to solve a limitation of the garmin astro for awhile now. I believe I have a solution but do not have the skills to implement it. My goal is to use my astro 320 in basestation mode while live tracking on an aerial image in order to use the large screen on a laptop. The updated software for basecamp and the astro has the ability to perform live tracking but it is only on the global base map installed. I have the birdseye subscription but base camp will not work with it in base station mode. I think if I have a custom aerial map installed in basecamp and have it selected as the active map, then the the live tracking will show on it instead of the global map. Can I purchase high resolution imagery for this purpose. The map can not be an overlay that is selected in the data area of basecamp. It needs to be a map that can be selected using the map select box in the tool bar on the top of the page. I thought the maintenance release 4.0.2 and then 4.0.4 of base camp would solve this but it did not. Is this type of map available or is there another method to accomplish this?
