Map detail in Basecamp ...... where is it?

I am new to BaseCamp and just opened one of my Garmin routes in it.
Where is the map detail? Other than VERY MAJOR roads, there is no detail to the map.
I can hardly tell where I am.
Is there a setting or something further I need to download?
I'm talking in BaseCamp itself.
On my Garmin I have tons of detail b/c I have the SD card with the N. American maps.
Thanks,
Mike

If you right click on the toolbar, you should be able to select "Detail Level". Once this is selected, you should see a toolbar control that let's you select the level of detail (default is medium).
  • Do I have to have my Garmin connected to the computer or the SD Card with N. America maps inserted into my PC or something while in BaseCamp?
Because even after selecting detail level and selecting HIGHEST, it shows pretty much NOTHING on the map in BaseCamp.
    Thanks,

You must either have your unit connected or Garmin maps downloaded to your computer. If you do get detailed maps only when you have your unit connected, that means you do not have the Garmin maps on your computer hard drive . The basic map in BC is pretty basic. There is a box at the top that tells you what maps are available. There will always be global map, but you need to check what else is available in that box.

No it doesn't.... at least on mine. Detail level control cannot be accessed by a right click on toolbar. Working through ALL the menu options, it appears to have been moved/changed/deleted by the geniuses at Garmin.

The geniuses at Garmin managed to put the Detal Level check box at the very top of the tool bar selection list in Basecamp v4.6.2 on Windows 10. Checking this places a list box on the toolbar from which you can select from 7 different settiings ranging from Highest to Lowest.

You can also select the Map Display Features for each of the activity profiles. These features are grouped into Areas, Lines and Points and allow a massive amount of customisation of the details displayed on the map.

I congratulate the geniuses at Garmin for giving us such a useful tool.

BaseCamp has changed a lot in the four years since that post you quoted. Rather than resurrect threads that old and then complain the solution doesn't work is rather futile. Next time consider starting a new thread.
