When I select (highlight) a route or a track in BaseCamp it normally stays highlighted when I click on the map or move the map around. If I do the same for a route or a track that is within an area covered by a BirdsEye image the highlighting disappears making it difficult to spot what I was just working on. It is as if the BirdsEye image gets selected instead of the route or track. Is there a way to tell BaseCamp to keep the route or track highlighted on top of the BirdsEye image?
I suspect Custom maps behave in the same manner, perhaps someone familiar with that feature can provide additional input.
Garmin seems to treat Custom maps and Birdseye imagery as a GPS object (i.e. waypoint, track or route as opposed to a Garmin map product). So your question boils down to how to activate the map window without changing focus/deselecting a GPS object and how to move the map once the map window is selected.
The map window can be selected by clicking on your current view on the view tool bar. You are probably in 2D view, so click on the square to the left of the 3D cube on the view tool bar.
You won’t be able to move the map with hand/pan tool on the tool bar without changing focus. I would suggest using the Map Overview tool (my preference) or the arrows on your key board. If you don’t know how to use this overview tool, let me know. The advantage of the keyboard arrows over some of the other methods is that you can use the ctrl key in conjunction with the arrow keys to move the map ca. 1 height/width at time (I think this is a new feature in 4.0.2).
For the benefit of others, you can reselect a GPS object with the hand/pan tool, but, depending on the task, this isn’t always convenient or wise.
Thanks for your advice. Your suggestions will do fine for the time being. Perhaps at some future time Garmin will allow Custom Maps and BirdsEye Imagery to behave like Garmin Map products, or Open Street Maps for that matter.
