Montana / Nuvi dashboard speed limit display

I had originally reported this to the Montana Beta group thinking it was a device issue. Now I think it's more to do with Basecamp or a combination of the two.

When navigating with the Nuvi dashboard active you should see the map data current speed limit above the three bar menu pick. I have found that if the Montana is navigating a route created in Basecamp this speed limit is not shown. If the Montana is navigating a route created on the device or is navigating directly to a waypoint or POI item the speed limit is shown. It seems that there is something in the Basecamp route file that is preventing the display.

There is another message board (advrider.com) for motorcycle riders that has a Montana thread mentioning the same issue so it's not just me.

Basecamp is 4.0.2
Montana is 4.60

After further on-road testing the speed limits are shown if you go off the Basecamp route, that was transferred to the Montana, and the Montana recalculates the route. HTH.
  • The problem is still there in Montana 5.2 and Basecamp 4.2.2. Unless you set the route to direct before sending to the Montana you have a very good chance of not see the speed limit data. Unfortunately, not a 100% chance of failure, but a pretty good chance.
  • I do not believe this bug has anything to do with BaseCamp.

I experience this issue frequently with my Montana, and I do not use any data from BaseCamp on my Montana.

The bug is in the Montana Firmware. Try an older version, like 4.70, and see the issue disappear.....

In my experience the total lack of speed limit information only happens when using a route from Basecamp. If the Montana calculates the route it still decides if it thinks there is a speed limit or not, ie on minor roads, whereas the zumo 660 seemed to show the speed limit for just about every road.

Not a big issue for sure, but in these days of "safety" cameras it helps on roads you're not familiar with, especially if its a foreign country with different units for speed.
  • BABJ615,

I'm not sure that's true. I've had this issue with the Montana/Basecamp since I got the Montana and it had 3.40, I believe. Maybe there are multiple things going on but if I create a route on the Montana or just nav to a waypoint I never have a problem with the speed limit showing. If I create a route on BC and send it to the device it probably won't display correctly.

I just looked at my original posting from October, 2012 and I reported this issue with firmware 4.60.

Thanks for the "direct" tip :)
