BASECAMP crashes when joining routes

I have been trying to join 2 routes into one using the “advanced” option, but every time I try, Basecamp crashes and I get the following message (see attachment).I have sent the message to Garmin (on three different times) and I have not received any feedback on the problem.
What is causing Basecamp to crash?
What can I do to resolve the issue?
The two individual routes (see attached) were originally one route which I had previously broken into two. The end point of “1a…..” route is the starting point for the “1b…..” route.
I highlight “1a” before I select “1b” to join.
  • You have to make sure you have the list that contains the routes, not the folder that contains the list.

Why? It's rather clear now that the problem is caused by a bug in BaseCamp...

I get lost with lists, list folders.
When I tried to join them I have both files (re-imported) by themselves in "My Collection/Joining(folder). "My Collection" also contains other folders with other files.

I have an Edge 705. I want to follow a "path" I developed which does not always follow a definite/defined road on a map.
Sometimes I don't want the navigation ability as it either directs me via the shortest route or quickest route which may not be the same as the route(path) I developed.
If this can be achived using the other file formats please let me know how it's done as I have been unable to find a way.
  • No, that cannot be achieved with another file format (that BaseCamp supports). Actually, BaseCamp on the Mac has the possibility to save a track to a tcx file, but that doesn't work (it returns an empty file). I doubt it will ever be possible with BaseCamp. Three problems/reasons:
    a. you need a course, not a track (or Activity as it is called in sports devices). There are similarities, but they are not the same thing. When BaseCamp did (properly) support writing to a tcx file, a track would become an activity, not a course.
    b. A course must have timestamps for every point; a track created in BaseCamp doesn't have them.
    c. The successor of the Edge 705, the 800, can import tracks, and when the settings are correct, it will turn them into courses that follow the original track. The 705 always converts a track to a route, and for that you need a map with roads that correspondent with the track... Anyway, it works with the latest device; I don't think they're going to implement something for older devices.

You might try JaVaWa RTWtool; it can convert tracks or routes to courses and write them directly to your Edge. It can also save you from the hassle with exporting and importing files because it has clipboard support: copy the track in BaseCamp, paste it in RTWtool and convert it.
