BASECAMP crashes when joining routes

I have been trying to join 2 routes into one using the “advanced” option, but every time I try, Basecamp crashes and I get the following message (see attachment).I have sent the message to Garmin (on three different times) and I have not received any feedback on the problem.
What is causing Basecamp to crash?
What can I do to resolve the issue?
The two individual routes (see attached) were originally one route which I had previously broken into two. The end point of “1a…..” route is the starting point for the “1b…..” route.
I highlight “1a” before I select “1b” to join.
  • Maybe you could try this: delete the routes from BaseCamp, and import them again from the GPX files.
The points in the routes and the routes themselves are stored separately in the database. Maybe one of the routes is missing the connection to the first (or last) point after splitting the original route, or both routes are still sharing the same point (at the start of one route and at the end of the other). Reimporting them from GPX should create two completely separated sets of route points (and routes).

tried your suggestion but basecamp crashed again.
  • Just loaded your two files into my BC and no problem joining them. I suggest you uninstall and then re-install BC as there may be a problem there.
  • Did you delete the routes from a list, or did you remove them completely from the BaseCamp database?

    Are you running BaseCamp 4.0.2?

I believe there is some funny business going on with joining routes in 4.0.2. The next release (4.0.3) will hopefully address these. I am not allowed to provide a release date, but it should be "soon".

    I apologize for the trouble.
  • I'm running 4.0.2 and they joined OK for me

It doesn't always crash, but often enough, according to our error reporting.

I'm using 4.0.2 Basecamp. I "delete and remove unique content" on both files.

The comment "doesn't always crash but OFTEN enough" doesn't give me much confidence in the software or Garmin's ability to release bug free software.

And other issue (BUG) I have with Basecamp is when I create a TRACK why can't I save/export it in TCX format when the opion is available? Why do I have to use third party software to convert the gpx or the gpd files.

You have to make sure you have the list selected that contains the routes, not the folder that contains the list. Then select the Route you want to join and use the Advanced button. If you have the Folder selected instead of the List Basecamp will crash.

Why do you need a tcx file? Which device do you have?
