Hi- I am new to Basecamp, could someone please tell me how to search for UK Postcodes? They are of course invaluable in UK and I cannot see how to do it. -And, sorry if this is already posted somewhere.
What is truly absurd is the information is out in the public domain http://www.doogal.co.uk/UKPostcodes.php provides a means to identify the lat/long of a postcode, derived from OS mapping data. granted there may well be a licencing issue, if so then surely Garmin should be able to pass on that licencing cost to users of their GPS products. Personally I'd happily pay a premium for a postcode search within Basecamp (if that is what it takes), assuming Garmin wasn't taking the mickey.
The problem is not with the data. It's there in the maps. The problem is in Basecamp. The developers admit that there are still many problems and limitations in Basecamp's "Find" features. You could always install Mapsource to use for Postal Code searches until Basecamp is programmed to do it.

I have mapsource (been using it since 2009), but for some reason its lost all the detail so I can't really use it (certainly not to plan routes). if I could recover the detail I'd use mapsource until Basecamp gets a useful search capability given a choice I'd kick Basecamp into the cesspit of despond it deserves and use Mapsource. Basecamp has got some nice features but in terms of planning a route a borked search tool makes it less than useless I even fell for Falagars please to wait for version 4.1 where

there may be improvement but they don't actually help me planning a route. mebbe Im too used to mapsource but the ergonomics in Basecamp are iffy I don't like its autosave option, Its tricky (for me) to buyild routes. I like to stick together fragments of routes, or tweak a route. the number of times Ive lost route data because its overwritten existing data on close is maddening.
The search is frankly a waste of developer time, its certainly a waste of user time. its useless.
having finally sussed what was wrong with Mapsource (it was showing the base map only and refused to use licensed maps*) I no longer care how long it takes Garmin to fix Basecamp's problems. With great joy I can dump Basecamp and get on with doing what I want route planning software for.. planning routes. I can understand why Garmin have gone down the pathway they have. they need something to support their new products and they wanted to include Mac owners. which is fine. its just a shame that in doing so they destroyed any value for me in their new mapping platform. I hope you are correct that Falager's comments hold out, but its not just the postcode search that is borked. try putting in a welsh street address and see how confused it gets. QUite frankly its kin stupid to use the proximity search ONLY. I can understand if you are doing geocaching or similar but if you want to go from address to address its a waste of time
FWIW The fix for my problems with Mapsource was to clear the cache (pressed CTRL + G twice). the problem arose when the Garmin updater downloaded some new maps.

If by trip you mean Trip Planner then there is not much one can say 'cos it's pretty buggy. If you mean creating routes then basecamp is reasonably solid in that area.
