How to not send tracks?

I have a list with a small amount of waypoints and routes. I delete all waypoints and routes from my etrex vista hcx and I only want the items on my gps that are in that list. I highlight 10 waypoints in basecamp and click send. It sends waypoints instantly, then I wait for 10 minutes while it is "sending tracks". It doesn't send routes if I don't select them, why does it resend all of my tracks?

Is there a setting to prevent this?

Any help appreciated.

Is the behavior any different if you right-click on the selected waypoints and choose 'Send To' and then pick the device?

No difference. That is exactly what I am doing.

I dug out an eTrex Legend HCx which I hope is close enough to what you have and sent a few waypoints to it. I also saw the 'sending tracks' message for a few seconds but then the transfer finished.

Would you mind trying to send it with MapSource and report if this works? (http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209) I'd like to find out if it's a BaseCamp bug or if there's something wrong with your device.
  • I will check tonight when I get home. I don't remember that length of delay, but will double check to be sure. I appreciate your response

For reference, I have a large amount of track data stored to the external card. A basecamp export of just the tracks, from a backup a few months ago, generates a 1.5mb file, it is probably 10-15% larger now.

Also, for informational purposes, there are no tracks at all in the list I am using, meaning that tracks are empty. Tracks are only in other lists and on the gps itself.
  • Just tried this and mapsource works a bit differently. I can't just send one waypoint that I am aware of? I select Transfer | Send to device from menu, and can choose the 4 checkboxes (maps, waypoints, routes, tracks). I remember being surprised I could not do this in basecamp now that I am looking at mapsource again.

I am happy to try anything you would like. I am a developer myself, so if you need me to run a debug version or something I would be happy to and understand the risks. I can also send my tracks if you need them.

No, I think in MapSource it's all or nothing. You can choose to only send routes/waypoints or tracks however. It will send all waypoints though if you have that checkbox checked.

So does sending waypoints work with MapSource?
  • Just did it again to be sure. 841 waypoints sent via mapsource in approx 4 seconds and then a clean disconnect. BC takes same amount of time for waypoints (but only sending 100 in fairness), then sticks on "sending tracks" with a slow but moving progress bar for several mins I would guess. GPS is locked during that time and eventually unlocks. Almost like a timeout.

I can work with it, but something's not right.
