Basecamp Routes not Making it to nuvi 2595LMT

This past May I purchased the unit and started using the Basecamp app to create routes, then moved them to the nuvi. Once done I would bring up the trips (it would take a bit of time to build them onto the device) and found that specific points were missing.

- I thought "via's" were being lost - but that wasn't the case in one scenario both via's were brought over; in another case - one of the two via's were lost.
- I thought I hit a maximum number of points - but that too wasn't the case (One set had say 10 points and I lost 2 points; then I created a smaller subset that was about 6 and still lost one).
- I sent my request to support; one replied with the procedures to transfer - which I had followed and I asked to still forward to the developers
- I see updates and "general customer fixes" - and still it does not work
- Updated to 4.0.2 and tried again - same problems - same lost points. GOSH.

I cannot believe this - we are talking basic stuff here and the nuvi is missing them.

So to briefly explain my problem (and I got lots of pictures and files I could post).
1) I created TWO days of routes using the basecamp product. It shows both "routes" (the icon) and points. I would open the route and build it; I would flip certain points as VIA (ie "won't alert").
2) Dragged both routes to the nuvi section below the library - shows it transferred
3) I request Windows to disconnect
4) I start up the Garmin and head to Trips
5) Hour glass appears and both trips will appear
6) I open up each trip and notice lost points as stated above. I wasted a good amount of time trying and testing etc to no avail.
7) I discovered a work around -- to make this work I would open the trip and ADD points via the SAVED places. Every single point I had in both trips are listed under "Saved Places" / "All Saved Places" -- that is the worst part. Those came across!! Cumbersome since the added points are thrown at the bottom and you have to manually move up and up and up. Once done it was ready for use.

I have repeated the above many times - deleting the trips; deleting all saved points; and reloading from Basecamp - no workie.

I provided the developers everything - everything to load directly into basecamp and then transfer over - but still not fixed.

-- I used TomTom's Itinerary and definitely they had via points -- and it worked great, since they shape the trip when otherwise you would take something else potentially
-- On the Garmin Nuvi --- it doesn't allow you to modify a point between "to visit" or "via"; I am guessing the basecamp has that as an option "called Alert on arrival" (for the 15,000,000,000 Garmin devices made) and that is not available on the nuvi 2595 (et al).
-- But still, every single point should make it over within the route - and it doesn't and I complained back in June. At last two updates since then and still no go.

Yeah the work around does work and I use that but it is cumbersome since "what if I forgot to add that point" and there I am driving waiting for something (yes I can pull over and add it from the saved points but still).

The TRIP app was 100% required for me to keep the unit and thankfully, once the trip/route is setup properly, it works pretty good. Even allows you to jump ahead in points. I was traveling from Toronto to NC and when in Leesburg VA due to a poor "via" placement ( I had not tested it ) - I ultimately hit the Dulles tollway and was royally PO'd - since that was a $4 charge I didn't want to get dinged with since the non-toll around there was perfect the previous year. But that was my mistake - but for that everything went fine. One beauty is the ability to just add points that you may hit and then skip them without having to bring up and choose a new route.

I am just surprised that no one else has found this (ie not fixed for months and probably never worked IMO) and it is still not working.

Thanks

  • There certainly appear to be problems with all the latest Garmin devices that use 'trips' rather than the previous 'routes', it's why I'm hanging on to my 1490 :D

    Unfortunately I can't offer any solution :(

You are making some wrong assumptions about smartphones. There are a number of navigation/GPS apps where the map is installed on the device and no data connection is required. Two examples of these on the iPhone are the Navigon app and the Garmin StreetPilot OnBoard app. The StreetPilot app basically turns your phone into a Nuvi. Garmin also owns Navigon. So I think your logic has some flaws. :)

I agree that Garmin has made a mess of things with the Trip Planner and they need to address this. But in the end, I suspect it's a tiny niche of customers who do route planning on the computer, and not enough to really move the needle with sales. If it really mattered a lot, then they would have already fixed the problems, which began with the 3790 almost three years ago.

Is the map version on the Nuvi the same one as one your computer?
  • I have had the same problem with my NUVI 2460 when transferring routes from MapSource (just started using BaseCamp) so the problem may not be with BaseCamp. One thing I did learn was to only transfer one trip at a time and then to immediately check that the route contained all of the points. Normally the points had transferred to the Nuvi and all I had to do was add them to the route.
  • Worth repeating the advice from Garmin FAQs about transferring routes to the newer nuvis that use trips:

How do I access routes transferred from the computer on a nuvi, LIVE, dezl, or zumo device?

Routes can be created on the computer in programs such as MapSource, BaseCamp, RoadTrip, or MapQuest, and then transferred to certain models of nuvi, LIVE, dezl, or zumo devices. Once the created routes have been transferred, you may access them on the device. On certain models, the routes must be imported before they can be accessed.

    To access transferred routes on a nuvi 465, 500, 700, 705, 800, 805, 1400, 1690, 5000 series or a zumo 220, 400, 500, 600, or 605 series:

    1.Touch Tools
2.Touch My Data or User Data
    3.Touch Import Route(s) from File
4.Select the routes you would like to import
    5.Touch Import
The device will now import the selected routes. The routes that were imported can be found in the Routes option under "Where To?".

To access transferred routes on a nuvi 295W:

1.Touch Where To? on the main menu
    2.Touch Routes
3.Touch the menu button (three horizontal lines)
    4.Touch Import Routes
The device will now import the selected routes. The routes that were imported can be found in the Routes option under "Where To?"

To access a transferred route in a zumo 350, dezl series, LIVE series, or nuvi 2400, 2405, 2505, 3400, 3500, or 3700 series device:

    1.Touch Apps
◦Touch Tools on the dezl 560 series
    2.Touch Trip Planner
3.Allow time for the device to automatically import the trip/route
These Trip Planner devices will take several minutes to automatically import trips into the Trip Planner. The import will automatically begin, but no message will appear on the device indicating that the import is happening. Once the import is complete, all transferred routes will be displayed under a category called Unscheduled Trips in the Trip Planner (Note 1). Until the trips show up in Trip Planner, please do not turn off the device or connect it to a computer.

*Please note: When routes are imported to your Garmin device, the route may change due to navigation settings within your device.

1 Units that create routes using Trip Planner cannot send routes to MapSource or BaseCamp. However, units that utilize Trip Planner will be able to receive routes from BaseCamp and MapSource
  • The weird thing is I have 2 garmin devices the nuvi 2595 and the drive 50LM when I transfer the same trip to both devices the nuvi deletes items from the trips and the drive retains all points. so it has to definitely be with the device itself. I am an inspector and I use the trip feature every single day to figure out my route and it is a little annoying that I can't use the device I want (the nuvi) because of this issue. I would prefer to use the nuvi simply for the voice command feature. And if we are really being honest I would actually prefer to use my vehicle navigation, but Garmin didn't make it possible to transfer routes to it. I can't even upload saved points via USB which is annoying. If I could figure out an easier solution I would certainly use it!

  • Not sure why you feel Garmin should make it possible to update your vehicle navigation ... perhaps direct that at whoever makes your vehicle.

As for the issue with your nuvi, this thread is 7 years old, and refers to the older style of trip Planner, so unsure why you've resurrected it, but my nuvi doesn't delete items from the trip. Could you please start a new thread with a more detailed explanation of your problem.  Thanks
