So, what the heck is going on that I now see two copies of the map in the right pane? The left copy is what I'm used to seeing by itself. The new view on the right looks pretty much the same except that instead of viewing from directly above, it is viewed by a "camera" which is somewhat south of the focal point, and looking north about 30 degrees declination from vertical. I found a "Map View" option to select 2D, 3D or both. I can select the 2D option and make it return to normal. However, if I change to another map set/product, it reverts to "both" mode and stays there till I force it back to 2D only.
What is going on here? How can I lock it to 2D only?
