I have been downloading Low Bridges ( see Lowbridges.com)and width/Weight restrictions to my Nurvi for a couple of years now, for use in a motorhome. The restrictions show up as POI`s downloaded to the Nurvi from Garmins POI loader. The problem they do not show until you are on top of them as Poi`s can only be seen with the Nurvi on the highest setting. It would help if the POI`s could be loaded into Basecamp so the route could be checked for embarising restrictions before I set off. Any ideas how to get custom POI`s Into Basecamp?
Try this:
Take your POI file, convert it to GPX (free on-line converter software) and import into Base Camp and make your route around these low points.
But if you want to be notified while driving, load the GPX file directly to your NUVI (THEY WILL APPEAR UNDER "EXTRAS") with POI Loader and while going though the screens select the option on the page that has "THIS FILE CONTAINS PROXIMITY ALERTS POINTS" check that box and then select "ALERT WHENEVER YOU GET CLOSE TO A POINT" and you will get a message on the NUVI screen and a warning tone (if you have the tone enabled on the device).
FYI - everything in that folder will be loaded to the device and all will have the same settings. If you have a big RV and can't turn around, make sure you select your route closely and set the alert far enough in advance.
Let me add this - DON'T RELY COMPLETELY ON THE POI'S TO GIVE YOU EVERY LOW POINT, YOU STILL HAVE TO WATCH FOR THE POSTED SIGNS.
