How do i make Base camp follow a cycle route please?

I am mapping a 200 mile route, which is mainly on road. All fine as BC quickly snaps to the road and makes life easy.

There are a couple of sections where I want to use a cycle route on an old rail line to avoid traffic and it won't allow mapping, simply send the route around the road

You cannot make routes in BC across sections that are not routeable with the mapset in use. Falagar has hinted in another thread that it could be considered sometime in the future but it is uncertain.

I don't know what GPS you are using but the following suggestion would work on my Montana:

Make a route as close as possible to your intended path (perhaps more route segments). Then create a track from the route. Modify the track to deviate from the route such that it follows your intended path. Download both route and track to you GPS. Make the track visible on the GPS with some bright color. Navigate the route but follow the track where it deviates from the route. I use mostly topo maps and tracks when bicycling. BC has some nice track editing facilities.
