Hi, I'm a road captain in a biker club and I use Base camp for preparing the weekly trip. One of my job is to prepare a road map for the members of the club; in the past I've used the copy paste function in Map Source cpying the data from the route to an excel sheet of txt file. Now on base camp this option is not yet allowed. Is there another option to copy the rote data in a windows file such excel or txt ?
  • Do u mean something like this?

and select "copy" paste it word or notepad.

    Printing Route Instructions...

This might be more steps than you want to complete, but it does make a nice route sheet for distribution.

    1. Obtain a free program than allows you to print a PDF file instead of to a real printer, e.g. PDF995
    2. For this process, make this your default printer.
    3. Double click your BC route and click on Print in the lower right corner of the Properties display.
    4. On the resulting Print Setup screen choose Page Setup and uncheck all check boxes except Route Directions.
    5. Print Setup will now display and choose Print [or Preview then Print].
    6. This will then provide a Window to name and save a new PDF file with the route directions.

Seems a bit over the top, but it does provide a very nice graphic instruction sheet which is easily distributed or posted to your club's website for member use.

ps: I just remembered that after installing a PDF print program, instead of making it the default printer, you can use the Printer Icon on the Print Setup screen and choose PDF995 as the printer for this process. Saves remembering to switch back to your normal default 'real' printer.
  • This is something they have been working on, but it still needs work. Since you know what to do in MapSource here is what I would suggest:

    1. Open BaseCamp and MapSource
    2. In BaseCamp, create a list for your trip
    3. Select the list in the upper left pane and copy it.
    4. Go to the MapSource application and paste it.

Then grab the data as you were before.

In version 4.0.1 you can grab the data under the route directions tab and move it to Excel, but there are some issues. In the US, the data is copied as comma delimited, but since times are entered as “hrs, min, s” this creates misaligned columns. Not sure what delimiter they use in Europe where numbers use “,” for our “.”, but this could create additional problems. MapSource used a tab delimiter which is probably a better idea. At the moment, delimiters are not inserted for empty columns leading to additional misalignment. I suspect that some of the folks who do this type thing are interested in the time data. For them, it would be better to use “00:00:00” format rather than “hrs, min, s” because Excel will recognize it as date/time and will convert it to its time format allowing operations that can’t be done on text..
