Basecamp very slow to load track and waypoint files:
Basecamp takes 10 minutes to load the track and waypoint files from my Montana unit. There are 80 MB of waypoint and track files on the unit. I can copy the 80 MB of files from the unit to my computer in a few seconds but Basecamp takes 10 minutes to read them.
The slow loading makes Basecamp useless for managing the large number of track and waypoint files that quickly build up on a GPS unit when it is used frequently.
I am now looking fo an alternative to Basecamp that can manage track and waypoint files (about daily 400 files). Any suggestions?

Import the files to Basecamp, so that they are in the Basecamp database. Only store files on the Montanan that you will need immediate access to.

that would defeat the purpose of having a unit with lots of storage.
I use the unit for work and need to be able to access past tracks when I'm in the field.

Currently reading 80MB of gpx data will be very slow (it's not the copy part that's slow, it's parsing the XML tree). We are planning to improve this in the future.

I agree with the previous poster that, for now, not having all that data on the Montana would be advisable.
