Basecamp Version 4.0.1 crashes when using import or export, running on Toshiba Satellite Pro C660, Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit. MS event log shows AppHangB1. Anyone encountered anything similar ?

 I have had this problem on all Basecamp versions, so used my old vista pc up till now (no longer viable).

    I apologize for the trouble.

I believe this might be a known issue. Does this happen regardless of what you want to import or export? The file dialog just freezes and never comes back?

Do you know if you have any Explorer (File Explorer, not Internet Explorer) extensions installed? We are still trying to figure out what is causing this, as it seems to happen only on a very small number of machines.

As a work-around while we are trying to fix the underlying problem, can you try to drag-n-drop files (like gpx) into BaseCamp and see if that works? For exporting as gpx, you can send data to a device or data card and grab the resulting gpx files.

That's an accurate description of the problem The file dialog just freezes and never comes back. and yesits regardless of what you want to import or export

I can Send to Device and Receive from Device, (Edge 800).

I am not sure how to check for file extensions on Explorer, can you instruct me ?

    Thanks

I am not sure how. I am just wondering if you have anything installed that might change how Windows File Explorer handles things. (Because the file dialog is a Windows dialog, not a BaseCamp dialog.)

So don't worry about it, I was just asking as a shot in the dark, in case you are aware of any programs that might have altered Windows File Explorer. Hopefully we can get a computer here that has this problem so we can try to figure out what is happening.

So I am afraid there isn't much you can do at this point other than using the work-arounds I outlined before.

For what it's worth, I am a new BaseCamp user, working on a Toshiba Satellite C660-22V, standard Windows 7 installation. I'm having the exact same issue. So, if you get a Toshiba of this model in, then you might just see what we're experiencing? (Fingers crossed).

The drag-n-drop work-around solves it for now, though - thanks for the tip. Importing in BaseCamp now works for me, in this fashion. Had used MapSource for access to 3rd party routes up until this point.

By the way - on this model laptop, the 3D view option isn't working. It gives me a message that my video card software needs an update, but that's auto-updated by Toshiba. Anything you could advise on that? Not that I miss the 3D view, as I'm used to 2D paper maps - but it seems like a fun gadget to have, if it works. :p

The laptop software doesn't always install the newest drivers for the components. So it might be worth checking which video card your laptop has and installing the newest driver directly from the video card manufacturer.
